Vale Robin Leonard

The harness racing industry is mourning the passing of prominent horseman and charity founder Robin Leonard following a 14-month battle with cancer at the age of 72.

Leonard originally trained out of Eastfield Park in Croydon before relocating to Lara where he often rented out boxes to young trainers making their way in harness racing.

Leonard enjoyed success with pacers Our Uncle Jim, Apple Of My Eye and HInoz Best.

Leonard was the founder of Children’s Charity Network which aims to wipe out illiteracy among underprivileged children in outback areas of Australia.

Children’s Charity Network engages Australia’s leading Children’s authors and illustrators to visit schools and conduct live workshops to improve children’s reading skills and upskill writing abilities.

Children’s Charity Network Board member Jason Woods paid tribute to Leonard.

“Rob was a wonderful, caring man with a passion for service and charity,” Woods said.

“His vision to influence young Australians through literacy 25 years ago has impacted thousands who will be saddened by this news,” he said.

Harness Racing Victoria extends its condolences to Robin’s family and friends.
