Victorian and New South Wales harness racing jurisdictions are mourning the loss of Phil Frost, who was for decades a valued steward.

The former participant, who passed this week, spent more than a decade at Harness Racing Victoria as a steward, primarily in a senior starting role where he played a lead hand on major metropolitan race nights.

When he finished in Victoria about 2008 he headed north across the border but continued to act as a senior steward for Harness Racing New South Wales, where he was greatly valued for his work in the Riverina.

HRV senior steward Barry Delaney paid tribute to his late friend.

“Phil was a really good starter, one of the best,” he said. “He would always dot the i’s and cross the t’s.

“He was very supportive and dedicated to his job. He was good to work with and remained a close friend of mine.”

HRV extends its condolences to Mr Frost’s wife Maureen, his children Christine, Margaret and Michael and their families.
