Vale Stan Rutland

The Bendigo harness racing community is mourning the passing of passionate long-time administrator Stan Rutland.

Mr Rutland held a number of positions in the sport including President of the Bendigo Harness Racing Club and executive director of the Bendigo Owners, Trainers and Drivers Association.

He was also a life member of the Victorian Breeders and Studmasters Association and was instrumental in the formation of the Association of Country Clubs.

Mr Rutland was involved with numerous horses, the most notable being Denver Gift trained by Bruce Morgan, who was raced by the Denver Lodge Syndicate.

He was also a part owner of Clarrie Hamilton’s South Atlas and Garry Graham’s Sports Dancer as well as Prince Kudos, trained by Dick Benger, and both Gallant Guy and Duncan Grey from the Morgan stable.

Bendigo resident Peter Svanosio paid tribute to Mr Rutland saying he was a great contributor to the harness racing industry.

Mr Rutland is survived by his sister Joy and brother Trevor. His funeral will be held in Bendigo this Saturday.

Harness Racing Victoria extends its sympathies to Mr Rutland’s friends and family.
