A flurry of Victorian horses stepped out at the Melton trials on July 1st in preparation for a tilt at Queensland's Constellation carnival.
Below are the horses that could mark the trip north before the end of the month.
Trial 3 – The Highlight Reel (Clayton Tonkin) & Draw A Dream (Clayton Tonkin)
The Highlight Reel and Draw A Dream contested trial three finishing second and third respectively. The Highlight Reel is the confirmed runner for slot holder Jamie Durnberger-Smith in The Protostar on July 27th.
Although unconfirmed, Draw A Dream could be looking to target the Queensland Oaks.
Trial 5 – Susan Is Her Name (Clayton Tonkin) & Shes Ruby Roo (Jess Tubbs)
Susan Is Her Name and Shes Ruby Roo finished first and second respectively in trial five. Connections of Shes Ruby Roo accepted an invite to compete in The Great Square on Saturday, July 13th. Susan Is Her Name is a Queensland-owned mare and is likely to also be targeting trotting features during the Constellations Carnival.
Trial 8 – Very Pretty (Clayton Tonkin), The Lost Storm (Clayton Tonkin), Perfect Class (Clayton Tonkin)
Very Pretty flashed home along the sprint lane to defeat talented stablemates The Lost Storm and Perfect Class in trial eight. Very Pretty is pencilled in to target the Queensland Oaks on July 27th. Perfect Class and The Lost Storm were looking to target The Rising Sun on July 13th if travel permits to get them there on time.
Trial 9 – Cigano (Clayton Tonkin)
Talented two-year-old Cigano is the confirmed runner for the GSM Racing slot in The Protostar on July 27th. He won trial nine impressively last night at Melton.
Trial 10 – Ladies In Red (Clayton Tonkin), Major Delight (Clayton Tonkin), Hurricane Harley (Clayton Tonkin)
Ladies In Red, Major Delight, Hurricane Harley finished first, second and third in the 10th trial at Melton. Ladies in Red and Major Delight would be targeting The Golden Girl open mares feature on July 20th. Hurricane Harley has not been confirmed however he would likely contest the open race features throughout the carnival.
Accompanying these horses heading north are multiple other Victorian trainers looking for glory in the Sunshine State.
