Plymouth Chubb had his winning streak halted at Tabcorp Park Melton on Tuesday night, with last season’s champion two-year-old trotter beaten for the first time since his debut start.
Having his first race this year and since recovering from a fractured pastern, the Peter Manning-trained squaregaiter was run down along the sprint lane by Anton Golino’s top gelding Cravache Dor in heat two of the Need For Speed Prince series.
Plymouth Chubb had won his previous 14 starts prior to Tuesday night’s defeat.
Driver Kerryn Manning didn’t make any excuses for her charge, who showed good speed to lead the field from outside the front row.
“He certainly put in a good performance, the run will do him the world of good,” Manning told The Trots File on Twitter.
“He only just got pipped before the post so it was a good effort.”
Plymouth Chubb’s start was his first since the Vicbred Super Series 2YO Trotting Colts and Geldings Final on December 31.
“He’s not puffing much actually. I was just looking at him then, he’d hardly blow a candle out which is a good sign too. I was worried about the number one horse tonight and that’s what happened,” Manning said.
“But he might get his own back next time.”
Plymouth Chubb will next run in the Group 1 Need For Speed Prince Final at Tabcorp Park on Friday, September 2.
