Watch: Recovering trainer David Aiken takes the fight to prostate cancer

Champion harness racing trainer David Aiken hopes sharing the fight of his life will “save a few”, as the Victoria Cup and Inter Dominion winner bounces back from prostate cancer.

Aiken, 63, said he had been “in a bit of trouble” after a blood test led to the cancer discovery, but now three weeks on from surgery and on the mend the trainer of great pacer Lennytheshark and Group 1 champion Max Delight is putting the spotlight on the disease.

In September the drivers of Aiken’s horses will wear special Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia silks, part of an annual partnership with Harness Racing Victoria to fundraise and drive awareness.

“I’m really excited about being an ambassador this year,” Aiken said. “I always thought it was a great initiative when it first started, but now it means so much more to us.

“It’s an honour and I just hope it helps someone along the lines. Fellas get checked up, hopefully we can save a few.”
