The time-honoured George Croxford Tribute takes centre stage at Echuca Harness Racing Club’s meeting on the Frank Ryan Raceway next Tuesday night.

The $25,000 feature for three-year-old pacers has been won by some very smart and emerging horses over the years and the 2022 edition has attracted a quality field of youngsters, including three last-start winners.

Rochester trainer Mark Thompson has three of the eight runners in the field and all look genuine each-way chances.

One of the trio, Warrantee, is unbeaten in two starts and Thompson bred the filly with his former champion pacer Guaranteed.

Warantee won at Swan Hill on debut on May 1 and followed that up with another success at the Mildura carnival on May 13.

Ellen Tormey was in the sulky for both those victories and will drive the pacer again on Tuesday night from a challenging barrier five draw.

Thompson also has Missed The Truth and Pas Guarantee in the race.

Missed The Truth, who has run seconds at his last two starts, comes from barrier four and Pas Guarantee, a winner three starts ago, will need some luck from outside the second row.

The Thompson runners will need to be at their best to beat the likes of Jess Tubbs-prepared Bettor Roll On who has had 19 outings and boasts a PB winning mile rate of 1.56.9min, albeit over the short trip on the renowned fast Bendigo track.

Better Roll On is also going to need some luck as he has drawn the inside of the second row, but has experience on his side.

The other winner in the field is the Greg Norman-trained Direct Command, who has had a win and a second in only two starts and has a barrier four draw. He will be driven by ageless horseman Brian Gath.

The nine-event card kicks off at 5.17pm with the Croxford Tribute to run at 8.39pm.

The good oil from the Vic trials circuit

Echuca, R6 N4, Mr Perfect
MR PERFECT is a former New Zealand pacer, which has recently joined trainer Russell Jack. At Shepparton on May 19, he settled fourth on the markers, moved out wide on the home turn and finished fast to win nicely. He is meeting a handy type in Blitzern on his Australian debut at Echuca but he is worth following. REPORT & REPLAY
