A host of two-year-old trotters will take some of their first tentative race track steps this afternoon in Tabcorp Park trials, which will be streamed live on thetrots.com.au.
While Grand Circuit star A Gs White Socks (pictured) will draw plenty of eyes when he steps out in trial 10 for a hit-out against Kualoa, Konan, Major Times and Vee Rock, it’s often the debutantes who most excite owners, fans and punters.
Two-year-old trotters fill trials one and two, which kick off about noon today and can be watched live via clicking this link or below.
Trial one features:
1) Phil Chircop trained Aldebaran Gwen, a Skyvalley filly out of Aspenglow, whose previous foals include US bred Dancing Filly ($425,863) and Cold Sister ($262,321). Today will be the first trial for the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale $12,000 purchase.
2) Kylie Sugars trained and driven Euryphaessa, a Majestic Son filly out of Indie Pepperell, is the first successful foal out of the Lawman mare, who Sugars bred. This is her second trial, having first stepped out at Melton on February 11 when third, some 41 metres behind winner Illawong Barmah.
3) Geoff Webster trained and driven Aldebaran Dianna is a Father Patrick filly out of Bromac Aldebaran, who was withdrawn from the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale and races for breeder Aldebaran Lodge. She is the fifth filly of unraced Bromac Aldebaran, a Muscles Yankee mare, with only Aldebaran Leroy thus far able to secure a win, which came last Thursday at Melton. Today marks her first trial.
4) Brent Lilley trained Hi Ho Kyvalley also has her first trial today. The 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale purchase was snapped up for $34,000, the fifth richest purchase at the sale. The Love You gelding is out of Terry Forster and Heather Lyttleton’s mare Pinevale Ellason, whose progeny include Duchess Ella ($126,934).
5) Julian Attard trained and driven Im Josephine, who is co-owned and bred by Diane and Joyce Attard, is an Im Stately filly out of dam Spannerintheworks, making her a little half-sister to multiple metropolitan winner Ten Spanners ($93,238). She trialled previously on February 11 at Melton when she finished fourth, 5.5 metres behind third-placed Euryphaessa, with whom she shares today’s trial.
Trial two features:
1) Brent Lilley trained Hotel Kyvalley, a Father Patrick colt out of Muscles Yankee mare Lindys Two Step, whose first foal Glenferrie Belle won $59,020. Purchased for $16,000 at the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale, today marks his first trial.
2) Shane Taylor trained Telephone Tilly, who has her third trial today after finishing fourth and seventh previously at Bacchus Marsh. The half-sister to Weshouldbesolucky ($15,164) is owned and was bred by Terrence and Frank Ryan.
3) Andy Gath trained War Dan Strikes is a Father Patrick colt out of Countess Angela, who was snapped up for $62,000 at the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale and is owned by Danny and Joanna Zavitsanos. The second most expensive purchase at the sale, the mare hails from the famous Maori Miss line. Today marks War Dan Strikes’ third trial, having previously finished sixth at Bacchus Marsh (February 22) and fifth at Melton (February 11).
4) Brent Lilley trained Aldebaran Zeus, who was bred and is owned by Aldebaran Lodge after the Muscles Hill colt out of dam Zoia Boko was passed in at the 2019 Australiasian Premier Trotting Sale with a $60,000 reserve. The Swedish bred mare is yet to see a foal taste success, but is a full-sister to Yield Boko, winner of $814,031 including two Swedish Breeders Crowns. Today marks Aldebaran Zeus second trial, having run second by a nose to Kyvalley Surfrider at Kilmore on January 22.
Today’s trials also see a host of two-year-old pacers making their debuts in trials seven, nine and 11.
