Group 2 races don’t come along every day and for trainer Kelly Stuart-Mitchell it is a thrill to be contesting the Alabar Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic for three-year-old colts and geldings on Saturday night.
Having just his third lifetime start, and second for Stuart- Mitchell, Keayang Omar finds himself in the $50,000 final after being recently purchased by Stuart-Mitchell and Darren Aitken from trainer Marg Lee.
The son of Lincoln Royal will have to overcome a slightly awkward barrier five draw but will look to use some of his early speed with Glen Craven aboard.
“He does have good gate speed and with it only being over 1700m we probably do have to go forward,” Stuart-Mitchell told Trots Talk.
Having been in the harness racing industry for a number of years, Stuart-Mitchell keeps herself busy working a team of eight horses, which she called “a small team, a nice little team though I am proud of them all”.
“It’s super exciting to have Keayang Omar in on Saturday night, so hopefully the gods can open up and go our way.”
When daring to dream of the possibility of success, Stuart-Mitchell is a little lost for words.
“It would be amazing. There’s probably no words to think if I could win it. I like to think he’ll be thereabouts, but if he did come out and win that would be unreal. I would be so excited.”
The night also features the three-year-old pacing fillies’ Alabar Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic final as well as the Group 3 Allied Express Blossom Lady, the TAB Captain Sandy Free For All and the Allied Express 2YO Classic amid a stellar 10-race card.
