NZ Tonight: Purdon has Faith his 3YO can bug Krug

The barrier draw could hand It’s All About Faith a winning edge over arch rival Krug at Addington tonight.

The glamour NZ three-year-olds haven’t clashed so far this campaign but have both been hugely impressive recording back to back wins, both beating talented older horses this time in.

They meet in tonight’s $20,000 Sires’ Stakes heat, a delayed heat of last season’s two-year-old series which will be run at Alexandra Park next month before the same horses kick into heats of the three-year-old series a few weeks later.

While there is little between the pair in raw ability, Krug was too good for It’s All About Faith in their sole Group 1 clash in the Young Guns Final at Alexandra Park last March.

But the draws tonight suggest it will be hard for him to continue that dominance.

It’s All About Faith’s trainer-driver Mark Purdon is confident It’s All About Faith will lead from barrier three and take an enormous amount of beating.

“Krug is a very good horse too but he will need to be to beat us as this horse is very well,” said Purdon.

Most importantly while this season’s Sires’ Stakes is a short and sharp affair, both horses are as good as qualified for the final so neither of them has to be driven desperately tonight

The early money with the NZ TAB was all for It’s All About Faith, being backed in from $2 on opening to $1.70, with Krug moving out from $2.10 to $2.30.
