In the spirit of celebrating our great sport and remembering just what our incredible athletes are capable of on, and off the track, let’s take a look back at the decade that was.
Blake Redden has detailed what he considers to be the 10 best races between 2010 and today.
Stay tuned for the countdown as we deliver one incredible race replay each and every day in the search for the most exciting contest in the last 10 years.
8. 2014 Cranbourne Cup – Terror To Love
The backstory to this race, and the way it played out, could easily be cause for a higher position in the batting order as we countdown to the best race of the past 10 years.
That said, there are still plenty of crackers to come so Graham Court’s champion pacer will have to settle for eighth spot.
Heading in to this race Terror To Love was a three-time New Zealand Cup winner, a true champion in his homeland, but that hadn’t translated to this side of the Tasman.
In eight previous attempts on Australian soil, Terror To Love was winless. In fact, he had six more starts here following his Cranbourne Cup success and was unable to capture another victory.
With all that in mind, he turned up to Cranbourne as a tune up for the Victoria and Hunter Cups.
Compatriot Christen Me was considered the rising star of the sport, having annexed the previous Hunter Cup and he led on this occasion, but if you’re of a fan of the trots I need say no more, sit back and watch the way these two horses go to war inside the final half mile.
