Breeding tour: Rare opportunity awaits

Harness Breeders Victoria (HBV) and Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria (TBV) have partnered to deliver interested racing people an opportunity to tour two of Australasia’s premier thoroughbred and harness racing breeding facilities.

Members of HBV and TBV and their guests have been invited to tour Swettenham Stud and Alabar Farms on Sunday, September 16.

“Victoria is one of the best places to breed horses anywhere in the world and this opportunity to go behind the scenes at two leading farms is one not to be missed,” Alabar Bloodstock General Manager Brett Coffey said.

“Whether you are more into thoroughbreds or standardbreds, we are all horse lovers and this cross-code stud tour is a really exciting promotion.”

Swettenham Stud proprietor and passionate thoroughbred breeding man Adam Sangster also welcomed the initiative.

“The joint stud tour is an outstanding initiative, and Swettenham Stud applauds the work of HBV and TBV to offer this opportunity to our breeding communities,” Mr Sangster said.

“It is a great honour for Swettenham to be the very first stop of the tour in its very first year. Our stallions will be ready and waiting to welcome everyone and give them a great show.”

The dual-code breeding approach is one of several exciting initiatives from HBV, which will also host the 2018 IRT Victorian Breeders Awards on Sunday, October 28, at the Shepparton Harness Racing Club.

Tickets for the annual awards day are on sale here and must be booked by Monday October 15.
