Having conquered Queensland some of Tim Butt’s nice types are Victoria bound to not only target Grand Circuit racing but some key aged racing fixtures.
While much excitment follows Let It Ride after he triumphed for Butt in Saturday’s Blakes A Fake Queensland Championship, there’s also plenty to look forward too in the short-term with the trainer confirming Majestic Courtney would contest the August 5 Seelite Windows and Doors Victorian Trotters Derby.
The three-year-old trotter put in an eye-catching 16m win at Tabcorp Park Menangle yesterday, prompting Trots Media’s Cody Winnell to pose the Derby question to the famed former Kiwi trainer.

Winnell joined John Thwaites on RSN 927 for today’s One Out One Back trots segment and the August 5 race day at Maryborough, which hosts not only the Derby but the Seelite Windows and Doors Redwood Classic and TAB Redwood Rattler.
“It’s for the purists, the traditionalists and also the revellers,” Winnell said. “It’s almost got something for everyone the Redwood Carnival on August 3 and 5.
“Both meetings are all trot races. On Friday we have the Aldebaran Park Gold Bracelet for three-year-old fillies, so the winner actually picks up the gold bracelet in addition to the stake money.
“And then on Sunday we have the Redwood Rattler train ride … the $75,000 Seelite Windows and Doors Trotters Derby and the $50,000 Seelite Windows and Doors Redwood Classic. They’re the two big feature races, plus a super strong card of support racing.”

One Out One Back also touched on Our Golden Goddess saluting again on path to an ID18 campaign, Philadelphia Man’s strong return, Matt Craven’s massive Queensland haul, Lochinvar Art, Keystone Del, Chicago Bull and Lumineer.
But it was Butt who was the man of the moment, not only for Let It Ride’s Grand Circuit win, but for then telling NZ Harness News the Group 1 winner would be “off for a spell now and then we’ll bring him up for the Inter Dom”.
“I can’t see why he won’t handle a lot of racing in a short time – he’s had three races in the last four weeks and just gotten better and better,” Butt said.
It was news that was warmly received on One Out One Back.
“This horse has got a nice picket fence beside his name,” Winnell said. “He’s only a four-year-old, (and) if you go through this race you have got the young horses in Let It Ride and Atomic Red who have both finished one and two. That bodes well.”
