Vale Don Dowell

Northeast horseman Don Dowell passed away on October 22nd at the age of 81.

Well known in the halcyon days, Don was ‘Clerk of Course’ at Wangaratta Trots for over 20 years and also at Shepparton when the Wangaratta Club raced there plus Cobram trots when required.

He also officiated at most Benalla and Mooroopna restricted meetings

It wasn’t only trots though, as Don was ‘clerk’ at Benalla and Seymour gallops on a regular basis.

There was never a bad word said about Don who was described as ‘a gentleman in every way’ according to lifetime friends Peter and Matthew Berger.

Don’s funeral will be held in Benalla on Monday November 11 at 11.30 am at the N J Todd Chapel.

Harness Racing Victoria and the Wangaratta HRC extends condolences to the Dowell family.
