LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 1650m Bendigo Locksmiths Free For All Trot

1/9 Tracy The Jet – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs

The return of 4-time G1 superstar mare Tracy The Jet creates plenty of interest here, resuming from an outstanding 3yo campaign and taking on a strong group of in-form trotters over the short trip from the back row draw. Her trials have been ok but backing her quality with the right tempo to come over the top late.

Confidence: Low   Rated Win Price: $2.80

Race 2 – 1650m Nutrien Equine Bendigo Vicbred Voucher Pace

2/8 Day Two – Nathan Jack/Wayne Potter

Another terrific but tricky race over the short trip, with the smart Arrhythmia resuming as a 3yo off two trials, and the in-form New Shuffle drawn a little sticky. With the map and tempo uncertain, the value play could be Day Two, who draws to sit off them and come with one late dash if they overdo things.

Confidence: Medium       Rated Place Price: $2.50

Race 3 – 1650m Gold Central Victoria Pace

3/12 In An Ideal World – Ewa Justice/John Justice

In An Ideal World has been racing very well from tricky draws and set-ups this campaign, and it’s more familiar territory over the short trip. There does look to be good speed off the front row early and if he can get into the race and show his toughness, he will be in the finish.

Confidence: High    Rated Place Price: $2.50

Race 4 – 2150m Haras Des Trotteurs Trot

4/9 The Priestess – Jason Lee/Marg & Paddy Lee

The Priestess has mixed her form this preparation, but she turned in her most complete performance yet last time out when working to the lead for a decisive victory. She steps up in grade and has been chancy from the mobile in the past, which tempers confidence, but if she leads, she’s the one to beat.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $2.50

Race 5 – 1650m Garrards Horse And Hound Final

5/6 Keayang Renegade – Jason Lee/Marg & Paddy Lee

Keayang Renegade is without doubt the most exciting addition to an already powerful stable, unbeaten in four career attempts in dazzling fashion. He did all the work in his heat and ran away from them; you can expect similar again for a horse who looks destined for better things.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $1.10

Race 6 – 2150m Bendigo Ski Centre Pace

7/1 Cardigan Dan – Mark Pitt/Emma Stewart

Cardigan Dan has resumed with two ultra-impressive wins in his 3yo season, taking another step from a strong 2yo campaign. He has the speed to lead easily from this draw and in many respects this race presents as an easier assignment than what he’s faced this prep.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $1.05

Race 7 – 2150m Worlds Best Hoof Oil Trot

7/2 Keayang Kurki – Jason Lee/Antti Ruokonen

Keayang Kurki is another multiple G1 winner resuming on tonight’s card, and another who may start a short price; however, she may have some vulnerability compared to others. Whilst she has good gate speed, despite two trials she gives away a fitness edge. If she can lead and get a good time of it is key.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $1.85

Race 8 – 1650m J & A Mazzetti Pace

8/6 Our Luciano – Alex Ashwood/Keith Cotchin

Another tricky race with fresh horses and awkward draws. Our Luciano is in that category, but a case can be made he may map okay with potential cover from the main threat in Oliver Dan. He’s raced in top grade as a 4yo and into topline FFA, has the benefit of a good trial and may represent value.

Confidence: Low       Rated Place Price: $2.80

Race 9 – 2150m Aldebaran Park Lunar Lass 3yo Trot

9/6 Howdy Mate – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs

Howdy Mate showed plenty of ability in his 3yo season, but has produced mixed performances on his return, a dashing win first up, then an underwhelming 6th last time. He’s fitter than most of his rivals here, and this does look suitable for him to bounce back.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $1.90
