GOODFORM – Craigs tips for the Gammalite program at Terang

Craig has your selections, strategy and Quaddie for Tuesday night at Terang

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: HUXHAM CHUBB (11) continues to race consistently against this class and finished off strongly to win her heat of this series. She is versatile and should be competitive again. BLUE MIKI (12) was left stranded without cover and fought on well for third ($1-85 fav) in his heat of this series and is backing up quickly from his effort at Ballarat on Thursday night, where he endured a tough run in the final 1200m. He prefers to race close to the lead so being drawn on the second row is a disadvantage but he is racing too well to dismiss. THEROUX (2) is usually competitive against this class and is drawn to gain a trail just off the speed so he must be considered amongst the leading chances. WATCH IT HAPPEN (1), WINGATE GUY (8) and FAMOUS LABEL (13) are all capable of showing up in an open race to commence the program.

SELECTIONS: HUXHAM CHUBB (11), BLUE MIKI (12), THEROUX (2), WINGATE GUY (8)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: LE CARDINAL (9) is a handy maiden, which is resuming since an unplaced effort in the Group 1 Super Series Final back in November. He finished second behind Boulevard Bart at a recent Terang trial effort and the last quarter was run in a sizzling 26.6 seconds so he should take beating first up. ROCKLEIGHS LEGACY (6) is also dropping back substantially in grade after her latest sixth in the Group 1 Bathurst Gold Tiara Final. She won a heat of that series prior and should be competitive under these conditions. ARE WEASLEY (4) is racing in good form and deserves to break through for a win. He endured a tough trip when second at Charlton in a strong mile rate of 1.57.1 then backed up with his effort at Ballarat on Thursday night, where he commenced from an awkward draw and was very wide on the home turn. BETTORPATCHMEUP (3) got too far back from an awkward draw and picked up some ground late when fourth at Ballarat. He overcame a tough trip to win at Hamilton prior and should run his usual honest race.

BACK: LE CARDINAL (9) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: LE CARDINAL (9), ROCKLEIGHS LEGACY (6), ARE WEASLEY (4), BETTORPATCHMEUP (3)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: MEDIA MOGUL (5) finished off well for an eye-catching second behind Lady In Line at Ballarat then set up a genuine tempo in the lead at his latest Charlton fifth. This appears to be a suitable assignment and he should go well. CEE WHOS BETTOR (8) is very awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line behind a moderate beginner but he put in a dominant performance when he led throughout in fast time at Mount Gambier last outing so he cannot be left out of calculations. LIVERMERE (2) performs best when she can lead out then take cover over the sprint distance so she is perfectly suited under these conditions. She finished off nicely from the back when second at Ararat last week. QUICK DECISION (3) and WOW YOU CAN DANCE (4) are both racing well enough to feature prominently.

BACK: MEDIA MOGUL (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: MEDIA MOGUL (5), CEE WHOS BETTOR (8), LIVERMERE (2), WOW YOU CAN DANCE (4)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: It is a tough race to assess with three first starters, several juveniles taking on older horses and several different form lines coming into it. BOBBYS ROOM (4) is a New Zealand bred debutante, which has had three trials with the latest being a victory in a slick mile rate of 1.58.7 at Terang. He obviously has ability and must be respected. SPORTY ROCKS (8) is awkwardly drawn but was a runaway trial winner at Ararat last week over PERFECTLY ROGUE (7) and must be kept safe. PERFECTLY ROGUE (7) has been runner up in two recent trial performances and is with the strong Margaret and Paddy Lee training combination so a forward showing would not surprise. CARAPAZ (10) has been placed at his past four attempts and finished off well at his latest second. He has the benefit of race experience over his main rivals and looms as a winning chance. NONNAS DREAM (3) was seemingly travelling well when she galloped approaching the home turn at Ararat last week so she rates as a value hope.

BACK: BOBBYS ROOM (4) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: BOBBYS ROOM (4), SPORTY ROCKS (8), PERFECTLY ROGUE (7), CARAPAZ (10)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: DHAULAGIRI (8) continues to race in great form and should prove hard to beat despite the awkward draw. He blitzed his rivals in the Port Pirie Cup then worked to the front and comfortably won the Adelaide Cup at his past two attempts. KEAYANG WASABI (5) came from last of the twelve runners and produced a massive performance to win at Hamilton then followed with a late closing second to Ten Da Touch at Melton. He continues to impress and looms as a strong winning chance. MADRIGAL (4) is returning from a Sydney campaign, where he was placed in both of his Menangle attempts. He was placed in the Ararat Cup four starts ago and possesses early speed so a forward showing is expected. LUVA SCRAP (2), CRIME WRITER (3) and SPRINGFIELD AFFAIR (6) are all worth thought in multiple combinations.

SELECTIONS: DHAULAGIRI (8), KEAYANG WASABI (5), MADRIGAL (4), CRIME WRITER (3)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: JILLIBY DOOLEY (6) was resuming since November when an emphatic winner over Happily at Hamilton, where he posted a slick mile rate of 1.53.8. He should have benefited from that performance and will prove hard to beat again. BLACK OPAL JACK (5) is a strong 3yo pacer, which finished third behind the Mount Barker Boy in the Graduation Final at Melton then followed with a good win at Ararat. He is versatile and is building up a consistent record so he looms as one of the leading chances. COLOSIMO (4) settled midfield and finished off fast when an eye-catching second at Ararat. He did defeat BLACK OPAL JACK (5) at a recent Maryborough victory and there isn’t much separating the pair on ability so he is worth an investment. SNACK LOVER (2) began quickly to lead, backed off the tempo mid-race and kicked on too well to score at Ballarat last week. He is meeting a field of more depth but is perfectly drawn and is worth thought again.

BACK: JILLIBY DOOLEY (6) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: JILLIBY DOOLEY (6), BLACK OPAL JACK (5), COLOSIMO (4), SNACK LOVER (2)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: KAMARAN (3) is racing in career best form and is very strong so he is likely to have plenty of admirers. He progressed forward to find the lead and kicked on strongly to win at Ballarat and is backing up quickly from his runaway victory at that track on Thursday night. STEPBYSTEP (5) has improved with every start since resuming from a spell and is working up to a win. He made it through to the Breeders Crown Final last season and he finished off well in a leader dominated race at Bendigo on Wednesday night. IM EDDIE (4) performed below expectations when he failed to beat a runner to the line last outing but his two placed efforts prior were in handy grade so he is worth another chance. RIDETHELIGHTNING (1) is drawn to gain an economical run and is capable of filling a place.

SELECTIONS: KAMARAN (3), STEPBYSTEP (5), IM EDDIE (4), RIDETHELIGHTNING (1)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: It might not be a wise decision to select a juvenile trotting filly that is taking on older and much more experienced horses on her debut performance but BUMPER CROP (5) is very nicely bred and was a runaway trial winner at Terang recently so she is worth following. MY MOTHER SAID (6) led and was able to hold off her rivals to win at Mount Gambier then followed with a second behind Boutika at Ararat. This race is no harder and she is worth thought again. RASENGAN (7) might find this race to be easier than his recent unplaced performances and is a possible improver, despite being well beaten at Ballarat on Thursday night. BROWN EYED KATE (3) is racing consistently against similar company and should give another honest account. She stepped to the front, set up a slow tempo and was run down over the latter stages when third at Ararat last outing. ITGETSBETTER (8) should be getting fitter after having two starts back from a spell and is not without a chance.

SELECTIONS: BUMPER CROP (5), MY MOTHER SAID (6), RASENGAN (7), BROWN EYED KATE (3)
