GOODFORM – Craig’s selections for Djaara Cup day at Charlton

Craig Rail has your tips, strategy and Quaddie for Friday afternoon at Charlton

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: The two juvenile pacers should be very competitive against the older Maiden class. LOUS MAMBO (1) was placed three times in succession prior to a fourth in a sizzling mile rate of 1.53.5. He finished fifth in the Kindergarten Stakes at his latest attempt and this race appears to be easier so he should be prominent throughout. LOCHINVAR CHANDON (8) has the perfect trailing draw behind LOUS MAMBO (1). He led out then took cover and finished in third at Wagga last week in a slick mile rate of 1.55.4 and that effort should be very competitive against this class. JANSEN (5) ran a game second behind La Smooch two starts ago and did well after enduring a tough run at his latest fourth. SWAYWITHSIERRA (3) and JUST LIKE NUGGET (7) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

BACK: LOUS MAMBO (1) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: LOUS MAMBO (1), LOCHINVAR CHANDON (8), JANSEN (5), SWAYWITHSIERRA (3)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: AMERICAN GUY (1) was performing well at the trials prior to his first two efforts back from a break, where he finished well for third at Melton and followed with a reasonable fifth at Coolamon. He is ideally drawn and gets his chance to break through for his Maiden success. BUBBLE OVER (6) was placed three times in succession prior to coming from a rearward position and working into fourth at Ararat. She is poorly drawn again but is racing well enough to be considered as one of the leading chances. MACHFREDDY (4) finished off quite well for third when resuming from a break and should be fitter. He should be suited against this opposition and must be considered as a winning chance. SEASIDE SHOW (5) used the pole position to her advantage to hold the lead and was run down in the last few strides when a close second at Mildura last week. She is not as well drawn and is meeting a field of more depth here but she is worth thought again.

SELECTIONS: AMERICAN GUY (1), BUBBLE OVER (6), MACHFREDDY (4), SEASIDE SHOW (5)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: MUSELET (5) won twice in succession prior to taking on the Metropolitan grade at his past two unplaced Melton attempts. This is a significant drop back in class and he is a very quick beginner so he is capable of returning to winning form. SCOOTER LOU (3) is stepping up in class on his latest Ballarat victory but he was able to dash home in a sizzling final quarter of 27.2 seconds and scored convincingly so he is capable of taking the next step forward. WICKED WIZARD (6) hasn’t finished further back than fourth at his past six starts and should run his usual honest race. He met a smart one in All Over It at his latest third and scored in a handy mile rate of 1.58.6 (2150m) at Shepparton three starts ago. SHAQ (1) will appreciate his best draw in a long time and is capable of improving on his numerical form.

BACK: MUSELET (5) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: MUSELET (5), SCOOTER LOU (3), WICKED WIZARD (6), SHAQ (1)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: ONE GOLDEN DEAL (5) was resuming since being unplaced in the Super Series Final when she recorded a slick mile rate of 1.54.7 to win at Melton. She is a handy filly and should prove hard to beat again. TO THE NINES (6) did very well after enduring a torrid trip when a brave third behind Ronzel Micky at Mildura last outing. He has been placed in five of his past seven starts and deserves to break through for a win. OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (8) led throughout at her two victories back from a long break then competed against strong opposition at her next three attempts. This assignment is more suitable and she should be competitive if she gains the right luck from her awkward draw. SHAZZA LOVE (4) continues to build on her consistent record and finished off strongly for second behind Kyoretsu at her latest attempt. She is worth thought along with MISTER JIMARINGLE (7) and RONZEL MICKY (9).

BACK: ONE GOLDEN DEAL (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: ONE GOLDEN DEAL (5), TO THE NINES (6), OUR ULTIMATE GRACY (8), SHAZZA LOVE (4)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: ALDEBARAN BRIANNA (6) finished second at Ballarat when resuming then broke stride in the latter stages when going to run in fourth or fifth at Ballarat. She is a winning chance if she gives a fool proof display against this line up. NO SHENANIGANZ (4) was confidently supported at his debut performance but he made an error and lost his chance. He obviously has ability and is worth another chance. KYVALLEY JOKER (10) is resuming since a third behind Chantilly Lass in February. He lacks solid racing but has the ability to figure in the finish. VIXAN (8) competed in the Homegrown Classic at her second attempt then was sent for a spell. She made an error at her first run back from a break but is a possible improver. NEDZA THRILLER (11) is a maiden from 70 starts but he has been racing well enough to be competitive against this line up. He attempted to lead throughout when second behind Sister Molly two starts ago. REDBLUENPURPLE (9) went well enough last outing to suggest he is capable of showing up prominently with the right luck in running.

SELECTIONS: ALDEBARAN BRIANNA (6), NO SHENANIGANZ (4), VIXAN (8), NEDZA THRILLER (11)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: MISS DOOBEE (9) finished off solidly from midfield to win in a slick mile rate of 1.56.4 at Shepparton then followed with a sixth in the Graduation Final at Melton. She has the perfect trailing draw and should be finding the line strongly again. HELLAVA DEAL (5) had no luck whatsoever when she raced out three horses wide for the majority of the journey and was unplaced at her first run since November. She has ability and is worth following. AMERICAN ASSASSIN (6) ran into a couple of handy ones in Black Opal Jack and Colosimo when a sound third at her first run since February. She should go well under these conditions. MAJOR ORION (7) has performed nicely in his three starts to date and broke through for his Maiden success after enjoying an economical trip at Melton. He has a tough draw to overcome but is worth thought along with POSTERMAN (10), which produced a big finish to win in easier grade at his debut performance.

SELECTIONS: MISS DOOBEE (9), HELLUVA DEAL (5), AMERICAN ASSASSIN (6), MAJOR ORION (7)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: CHAMPAGNES (3) produced a career best performance when she worked to the front from a wide draw and recorded a mile rate of 1.58.6 in her latest runaway success. She is ideally drawn and is clearly the horse to beat again. CONNIES PRESIDENT (2) is working into some form and is drawn to give a forward showing. He kicked on strongly at his latest second behind Blackrange Glory and most of his efforts for the season have been against the pacers. ATABOY CHARLIE (6) was placed eight times in succession (2 wins) prior to his past two attempts. He was caught wide early and restrained to a rearward position when an unlucky fourth at Charlton last outing so he is worth another chance. ALABAMA MAY (4), SNICKERS EXPRESS (7) and BAARLINEE (11) are all worth thought in multiple combinations.

BACK: CHAMPAGNES (3) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: CHAMPAGNES (3), CONNIES PRESIDENT (2), ATABOY CHARLIE (6), SNICKERS EXPRESS (7)
