It was three decades in the making, but to trainer Ros Rolfe, it was worth the wait.
Scoring with Dallas Miki last Friday night, Rolfe captured the Robinvale Pacing Cup, which was conducted in Mildura.
Although she has enjoyed her share of success throughout the years, Rolfe hasn’t won a Cup since The Tesstar proved too good in the Moama Pacing Cup during the 1990s.
“It was very exciting to have him win a Cup,” Rolfe said. “It’s been a long time since I won a Cup, 30 years in fact, so I’m rapt.
“He won it well too, which is great!”
With Rolfe in the cart, Dallas Miki led throughout from barrier three to cruise to an impressive 11-and-a-half metre win from My Ultimate Jimmy, with Prioritise three metres away third.
Rating 1:56 over 1720 metres, Dallas Miki notched his fifth win from his last nine starts.
“I was very confident with him as he has been racing and working so well,” Rolf said. “Although he was unplaced in the Ouyen Cup the start before, his run was huge.
“He just got worked up at the start because of the false start and the track was heavy at the rail, so taking those into consideration, I think he ran a huge race.
“Once he got to the front, he just felt so comfortable and never felt like he was going to be beaten.”
Hoping to find another suitable Cup for the son of Always B Miki, Rolfe will head to Melton during the interim.
“He’s pulled up great,” Rolfe said. “In fact, I put him in the cart this morning went around nice, smooth and happy.
“I’ve got him nominated for Melton on Saturday as I thought I may as well go before bubble bursts…might as well have a go!”
