The Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale, to be held at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, has received its best possible boost with the results of two-year-old racing around the country this season.
Already there has been 12 individual two-year-old winners and a Group placegetter which were sold at the 2021 sale.
Heading the list are Petracca, an $80,000 buy for Danny Zavitsanos, and Naturally Gifted, a $30,000 purchase for Jake Stockton, who both won heats of the Bathurst Gold Crown and were placed in the Final.
Our Sunset Delight, bought for $18,000, also won a heat of the Bathurst Crown Crown and was runner-up in the NSW Sapling Stakes, while Firefly ($10,000) took out the Bathurst Gold Crown Silver Consolation.
Shantilly, a winner at Menangle and Newcastle, was bought by clients of the Brian Portelli stable for $27,000.
Other winners from the sales have been Glenferrieman, a $42,500 purchase, Il Bandito ($40,000), Rolling Fire ($31,000), Sargeant ($30,000), Lethal Louie ($16,000), Snow Hunter ($10,000) and Jeremy Lou ($6,000).
Beckham, the top priced lot at the sale at $180,000, finished a neck second in the $67,000 Cardigan Bay Stakes at Auckland, while Lochinvar Xena, the highest priced filly at $115,000, was runner-up in a heat of the Bathurst Gold Tiara at her debut.
More than 140 yearlings will go under the hammer from 11am on Sunday.
There’s stock of many of the world’s current leading sires in Bettor’s Delight Captaintreacherous, American Ideal, Somebeachsomewhere, Art Major, Sweet Lou, Always B Miki, Rock N Roll Heaven, Downbytheseaside and Betting Line, and trotting sires Majestic Son, Love You, Father Patrick, Muscle Mass, Andover Hall, What The Hill, Southwind Frank and Trixton.
With the sponsorship of Haras Des Trotteurs, trotters purchased from the Melbourne and Sydney sales will be eligible to compete in separate $62,500 finals for two-year-olds in 2023 and $125,000 finals for three-year-olds in 2024.
Pacing colts and geldings and fillies will be eligible to compete in $175,000 finals as two-year-olds and $100,000 as three-year-olds.
All finals will be held at Melton.
