A pick for the future as Seymour selects a Vic for the Eureka

Prominent owners Kevin and Kay Seymour have selected Bay Of Biscay to fill their slot for the 2024 TAB Eureka.

The Emma Stewart-trained colt will join The Lost Storm and Major Delight as fellow stablemates chasing top honours in the world’s richest harness race.

Seymour based his selection for the September 7 feature on what would be best for the sport.

“I was looking not only from the horse’s point of view, but in a way to promote harness racing and a way to get the most benefits back to the sport,” Seymour said.

“I looked at the horse’s form and his performance and looked at the ownership of the horse.

“I looked at the quality of the people in the syndicate – a good friend of harness racing, John Anderson, is a part owner and even the late Tom Hogan. Tom was a very well-respected part of harness racing.

“It is all about promoting the sport and the people involved, and that was the deciding factor.”

The Queenslander’s selection for the slot race was influenced by what the colt out of Nike Franco can do for the future.

“I was looking at it far wider than the straight-forward, this is all about a life changing event winning The Eureka,” he said.

The three-year-old has amassed over $213,000 in is 12 starts, which includes a second-place finish in the NSW Derby at Menangle – the home of The Eureka.

“I think he is a very nice horse and he has run second in a number of derbies,” Seymour told thetrots.com.au. “The big benefit is he will draw one or two being a three-year-old.”

Bay Of Biscay joins fellow Victorian-trained pacer Fighter Command as the only three-year-olds currently selected in the field.
