A five-race winning streak has trainer Gary Lawlor describing his three-year-old filly as ‘pretty special’ after the filly out of Lagertha picked up her latest cheque at Ballarat on Thursday night in the Black Hill Hotel Pace.
“She is just a good horse,” Lawlor said. “I think she is pretty special, and she has the ability to stay and she has got very, very high speed.
“She can do a bit of work in the race or she can sit and sprint or come at the last minute – to me, she is pretty versatile.”
The Camperdown horseman has seen the three-year-old develop at home.
“She is very impressive through trackwork, she is an absolute perfect lady and she hasn’t got any faults and she is a 10. Everything about her is perfect and I can’t see why she won’t go on to be a really good horse,” he said.
Lawlor’s filly will head to Friday’s Breeders Crown pacing heats as she begins to wind down for the season.
“She will head to Melton on Friday for the Breeders Crown heats and then she will hopefully be back there the following week for the final,” he said.
“That will be her biggest test to date.”
The 70-year-old is confident this might be the best horse he has ever had in his care.
“I had Bad Billy a couple of seasons ago and he won $260,000 and he made the Inter Dominion heats and she is definitely a better horse than he was,” he said.
Sweet Ideal will have a quiet end to the season before targeting bigger prizes in 2025.
“She will have two more runs this year before she has a bit of a break,” Lawlor said. “My idea is if I look after her, she will look after me.
“Next year we will look at the VicBred and all those bigger races.”
