NSW filly Soho Americano continued on her successful Oaks crusade when she outstayed her rivals in the Group 1 Victoria Oaks Final on Saturday night at Melton.
Sent out a $2.50 favourite, Soho Americano worked to the lead with 1800 metres to travel and the daughter of American Ideal staved off a late challenge from Beach Diamond to score by a neck in a mile 1:565.8 for the 2760 metres.
The Michael Stanley-prepared filly is now a dual Oaks winner after taking out the Queensland Oaks in July. She had previously finished runner-up in the NSW Oaks behind Cool And Classy.
Stanley said Soho Americano possesses a full arsenal of harness racing weaponry.
“She can sit off the pace or she can do work and she’s got gate speed – she’s just an all-round great little racehorse,” Stanley said.
“We’ll keep her going for the Vicbred against her own age and sex and then she’ll be off for a well-earned spell.”
