The Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale at Oaklands Junction on Sunday offers an impressive catalogue of 145 yearlings, featuring some of the most potent pedigrees and bloodlines that have produced hundreds of black-type winners.
American and Canadian stallions represented in the catalogue included many of the world’s current leaders including pacers Bettor’s Delight (pictured), Captaintreacherous, American Ideal, Somebeachsomewhere, Art Major, Sweet Lou, Always B Miki, Rock N Roll Heaven, Downbytheseaside and Betting Line, and trotting sires Majestic Son, Father Patrick, Muscle Mass, Andover Hall, What The Hill, Southwind Frank and Trixton.
Love You (pictured), the champion French sire, and his leading son, Quaker Jet, will be represented by seven and three lots respectively.
Another feature of the sale is the first crop of former New Zealand superstar Lazarus, the NZ 4YO of the Year Ultimate Machete, the brilliantly fast American import Mel Mara, the American-bred European Group 1 star Volstead and the USA Breeders Crown trotting champion Tactical Landing.
With 17 offspring, Volstead has sired the largest number of yearlings in this year’s sale. He’s a son of champion sire Cantab Hall, the sire of two of America’s leading stallions in Father Patrick and Explosive Matter.
Other sires with strong representation are Art Major (11 lots), American Ideal (10) and Sweet Lou (9) and the trotters Father Patrick (11) and Majestic Son (10).
On the distaff side, the dams of the yearlings have produced no less than 69 Group winners including 27 Group 1s, 20 Group 2s and 22 Group 3s.
The list includes the Inter Dominion champion Smolda, the Miracle Mile heroine Baby Bling, the Hunter Cup and Victoria Cup winner Bling It On, the Chariots of Fire winners Expensive Ego and Jilliby Kung Fu, the Derby winner Act Now, last year’s 2YO Filly of the Year Encipher, Smooth Showgirl, Charlie Machsheen and the trotting classic winners Cover Of Darkness, Banglez, Une Belle Allure, Just A Bit Touchy, Hes A Hammer, Kinvara Sue, Pretty Majestic, Kyvalley Clichy, Alpha Male, Royal Charlotte, Needabacardi, Kyvalley Kyrie and Aldebaran Misty.
There’s yearlings from a host of top racemares including the Group 1 winners Our Golden Goddess, Rocknroll Magic, Bamako Mali, Claudy’s Princess, Joyful Joy, Illawong Helios, Red Hot Roxy, She’s An Image, Shezoneoftheboyz, Miss Warbucks, Aldebaran Eve, Betty Hall, Royal Treat and Une Belle Allure.
The dams represented in the catalogue are by world class sires and broodmare sires such as Artsplace, Western Hanover, Rocknroll Hanover, Christian Cullen, Bettor’s Delight, Somebeachsomewhere, Mach Three, Falcon Seelster, Armbro Operative, Fake Left, Art Major, Ready Cash, Sundon, Muscles Yankee, Angus Hall and Pine Chip.
