Breeders Crown: Aiken delights in Max’s draw

“I couldn’t ask for a better draw,” says David Aiken of Max Delight, whose front row gate has him beautifully poised for a serious assault in Saturday night’s IRT three-year-old colts and geldings’ final of the TAB Breeders Crown.

The Victorian trainer joined Gareth Hall, Jason Bonnington and Blake Redden on RSN 927’s Gait Speed today to dissect Saturday night’s Breeders Crown semi-finals.

Gate two was plucked for the multiple Group 1 winner at Bendigo on Saturday night, drawing outside only Revolt, who had earlier that night happily allowed Max Delight’s stablemate Malcolms Rhythm to roll to the front in their semi-final.

“(Max Delight) shouldn’t have a lot of trouble getting to the fence really quick,” Aiken said of the likely final scenario, and from there the New South Wales Derby winner, who’s already amassed $223,970 in stakes, will take plenty of beating.

Aiken said Max Delight’s fifth placing in Saturday’s semi-final had been no reason for concern.

“I thought he was really good,” Aiken said. “He had that little crack early, Greg elected to hold the front and … he came out a long way from home and when he came out he went pretty quick to get past Jesse Duke and he used a little bit too much petrol there. He’s gone down by under a length, I thought his run was pretty good.”
