Calendar Change: Reg Withers rescheduled

Following the cancellation of last Friday’s race meeting at Kilmore, Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) has rescheduled the key races from the night.

HRV promptly announced the Empire Stallions Vicbred Platinum Home Grown Classic heats would be run at Ballarat on Thursday night May 16.

Further, after consultation with Kilmore it was agreed the Reg Withers Classic for three-year-olds would be run at the club’s Thursday night meeting on July 18.

“This provides an additional racing opportunity for three-year-old pacers between the completion of the Vicbred Super Series and the commencement of the Breeders Crown,” Kilmore CEO Ben Murphy said.

“We appreciate the support of HRV to reprogram this race. It’s very important for us to continue to honour Reg and the Withers family, who have provided ongoing support for our club.”

HRV General Manager – Racing Stephen Bell welcomed Kilmore’s cooperation and thanked his team for their quick response to Friday night’s cancellation.

“Being able to inform the industry via social media on Friday night as soon as those races were cancelled was important, and following up on Saturday with dates allowed our trainers to plan their calendar,” Mr Bell said.

“It’s never ideal when a Friday night meeting has to be cancelled, but providing certainty and a transparent flow of information to participants is top priority.

“I also thank Kilmore CEO Ben Murphy for working with HRV to ensure this important race, the Reg Withers Classic, can go ahead on suitable date.”
