When you spend your formative years around horses it is more than likely you are going to spend a large part of your life with them.
And so it is proving the case for Maryborough rookie trainer Nyaire Carpenter.
After growing up around standardbreds, the 23-year-old moved into training ranks mid-way through last year and, while yet to get a winner, Carpenter is loving every moment of the experience.
She will have just her 15th starter with Tornado Kev in the Brandt X9 Maiden Trot in Ballarat on Friday night – the first race on an 11-race card.
The four-year-old has had just the two starts and while he still has a lot to learn Carpenter is happy to give him time.
“He’s coming along,” she said, building on her particular fondness for trotters. “I just love the way they go.”
Carpenter has been involved with horses as long as she can remember, with her grandmother Lorraine Angel having had trotters.
That’s where it started for her.
Her training venture is also a family affair, with her uncle Matt Bourke giving her a hand along with David Coomber, who are also part of the ownership group of Tornado Kev.
Carpenter said she was constantly getting plenty of encouragement and motivation from people around her.
While Tornado Kev is the only horse she has going to the races at the moment, Carpenter also has an unraced two-filly filly Our Precious Gem in her stable.
She is by Flightpath and the second foal out of race winner Jilliby Kesha.
