Connections have their say ahead of the First 4 jackpot at Melton

The first event this Saturday night at Melton looks to be a competitive race with speed and power on both the front and back line.

A $10,000 TAB jackpot has been added to the First 4 pool for the Del Re National Italian Cup, and connections have had a say on the chances of their horses ahead of the 2240m event.

1. ULTIMATE VINNIE ($13)

Trainer: Sam Barker / Driver: Tayla French
Barker says: “Been waiting for a barrier draw and now we’ve got it. We are going to use our gate speed and hopefully be able to hold the front. I think he can win.”

2. TANGO TARA ($5)
Trainer: Andy Gath / Driver: Kate Gath
Andy Gath says: “Tango is racing well without winning, but the draw gives him a great opportunity to win again.”

3. PERFECT CLASS ($2.80)
Trainer: Clayton Tonkin / Driver: Mark Pitt
Tonkin says: “Perfect Class is a lovely horse on the way up. He has really good potential and is looking for a slot in the Eureka if his form reads good enough.”

4. BACH ($10)
Trainer: Kyle Marshall / Driver: Chris Alford
Marshall says: “His toughest test to date. It would be good to know where he’s at. He’s had a couple of trials, it will be interesting to see how the race plays out.”

5. DHAULAGIRI ($71)
Trainer: Julie Douglas / Driver: Ellen Tormey
Tormey says: “Massive rise in class. Will most likely go back and be driven quiet but has a nice sprint if race is run to suit.”

6. BULLETPROOF BOY  ($41)
Trainer: Scott Ewen / Driver: Scott Ewen
Ewen says: “I think his chances are good and he will be better from his run last week. He needed the fitness last week and still run a mighty race. Bit of action early and he won’t be far away.”

7. JUSTALITTLESIP ($151)
Trainer: Joe Pace / Driver: Adrian Pace
Adrian Pace says: “Not ideally drawn but looks like there will be a bit of speed and hopefully we can find a good position with him.”

8. KOSIMO ($26)
Trainer: Julie Douglas / Driver: Jack Laugher
Laugher says: “Horse is going really well. Good draw for him, should be hitting the line hard again.”

9. YAMBUKIAN ($5)
Trainer: Andy Gath / Driver: Jordan Leedham
Gath says: “Yambukian is performing extremely well from poor draws. Can make his own luck but is equally as good coming with one run.”

10. LIKE A WILDFIRE ($5.50)
Trainer: Clayton Tonkin / Driver: David Moran
Tonkin says: “Like A Wildfire is an old favourite. He never runs a bad race and is always dangerous against anything.”

11. TRIPLE EIGHT ($7.50)
Trainer: Jess Tubbs / Driver: Greg Sugars
Tubbs says: “Racing in great form. Always a chance with the right run”.

12. SANDAY – Emergency ($61)
Trainer: Andy Gath / Driver: Alex Ashwood
Gath says: “Sanday is first-up and first time in a FFA race. Draw and fitness against him. Minor place hope.”

13. JILLIBYJACKSPARROW ($151)
Trainer: Paddy Lee / Driver: Glen Craven
Lee says: “Starting to dip his toes in FFA grade, taking a bit of a step-up after hitting a warm vein of form through the 1200m races. Barrier does him no favours on Saturday night so we will be hoping for some luck late.”
