Dicocco and Del-Re on the hunt for success at Ballarat

Trainer Vince Dicocco decided with his cousin Mark Del-Re that they would have a crack again when they went to the Australian Pacing Gold yearling sales last year.

And Dicocco told Trots Life’s Toby McKinnon that decision led to the purchase of Mister Hunter, a $45,000 Huntsville-Moremi Miss colt that debuts tonight in the Tomas Graca Tennis 2YO Pace at Ballarat.

“Now the kids have grown up so me and Mark (Del-Re) decided that we’d go to the yearling sales and buy one,” Dicocco said.

Dicocco began training horses in 1993 under the tutelage of the late Gavin Lang. His training career has netted 25 wins from 140 starts and includes a hiatus to raise his family.

“Gavin didn’t really know us at the time and if we could train or not… we started training him (Supremo) and got him ready,” Dicocco said.

“We took him over to Gavin’s and Gavin ran his eye over and from there on he started to teach us on how to train…

“He (Gavin) was a bit of a mentor for us and he took us in.”
