Faithful’s need for speed rewarded as Blake’s countdown reaches 3

In the spirit of celebrating our great sport and remembering just what our incredible athletes are capable of on, and off the track, let’s take a look back at the decade that was.

Blake Redden has detailed what he considers to be the 10 best races between 2010 and today.

Stay tuned for the countdown as we deliver one incredible race replay each and every day in the search for the most exciting contest in the last 10 years.

3. 2016 Miracle Mile – Have Faith In Me

In terms of horses bursting on to the scene during the teens, not many did it with the flare or excitement of Have Faith In Me.

He was a winner of 12 from 16 coming into the 2016 Miracle Mile.

He may have been just a four-year-old but he’d taken out a New Zealand Derby and Auckland Cup on his home digs before venturing west.

Under new conditions of the race, he was granted a spot in Australasia’s hottest test of speed by smashing his contemporaries in the Chariots Of Fire two weeks out.

Up until this point we’d seen very few horses come from off speed in big races at Menangle but he sat back and launched with the most incredible burst to just peg back fan favourite Lennytheshark right on the line.

Add to that the fact he stopped the clock in an unthinkable 1:47.5 and almost everyone believed we’d seen a generational horse on this day.
