Family pride drives Platinum Jive’s Melton win

It’s fair to say racing Platinum Jive is a true family adventure.

Trained by Vic Pace, Platinum Jive is predominantly driven by his son, William, who part-owns the mare.

William’s wife, four children and the family of a “work mate” share ownership in the daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven.

So naturally Platinum Jive had a reasonably-sized cheer squad watching her win in Melton last Friday night.

“It’s two families who own her and they love having her race,” Vic said. “William’s family and a work mate’s family own her, so there is a few involved.

“William does most of the driving with her, but my son Darren and grandsons Adrian and Blake have driven her too.

“In fact, I’ve got her nominated for a mares’ race in Melton on Friday night and Adrian is down to drive her.”

With William in the cart during her latest outing, Platinum Jive was settled in the perfect one-one position from barrier three as Skippers Delight led from the pole and Isolation worked hard on his outside.

Dashing to the lead along the back straight, Platinum Jive sustained a strong sprint to score by 11 metres from The Steel Dragon, with Can Be A Ruebe a head away third.

“That was a good run,” Vic said. “And of course, I have to say a great drive!

“She is coming along pretty nicely at the moment, which is good to see as we were having some trouble with her tying up.

“At the moment I’ve got her right, so hopefully she stays that way and keep her form going.”
