It hasn’t been an easy path to this point but Kima Frenning’s “really excited” to put the challenges of her Tabcorp Park Melton fall behind her and settle back into the sulky for a night’s racing.

The talented reinswoman steers Firerockfireroll in Saturday night's second race, the Benstud Standardbreds Pace, and Like A Wildfire in the fourth, the TAB Long May We Play Pace, a tick over two months since she fell in the score up at Melton and suffered serious injuries.

Frenning joined Jason Bonnington and Blake Redden on today’s edition of Talking Trots on Track and said her recovery had “taken a bit longer than I wanted”.

“I have been pretty frustrated and just wanting to get back, but I think in the long run that’s probably going to be a good thing,” she told SENTrack on 1377AM.

“I had a pretty severe concussion, so that’s taken a while to come good. And then, I thought it was four, but it’s actually five fractures in the hand – one went through the joint and then one either side of the wrist. That’s been taking a while as well.

“It’s obviously good enough to go, but still can get a bit tender at times. I’m super happy to be declared able to race now.”

Both her steers will be for Emma Stewart’s camp, a fitting reunion, with Frenning in the midst of a move to Ballarat to join the stable.

It will mean the opportunity to get her hands on some of the state’s leading equine athletes, including her two well-rated drives on Saturday night.

“(Firerockfireroll)’s up in class a bit, he is a really nice horse himself,” she said. “The draw’s probably going to help us a fair bit as well.

“(Like A Wildfire’s) a really cool horse and he’s got really good point to point speed. It’s the strongest field he’s raced against it.

“I’m just super excited to get back into the bike and to be able to drive two horses like these is even more exciting.”
