Gavin Lang: Champ driver’s stable firing

It’s hard to deny results like that being achieved by Gavin Lang as a trainer this season.

It began at Melton with Pay Rise on March 5, Lang’s first starter as a trainer in over 11 years.

It has continued since, Lang racking up 25 wins and 41 top-three finishes from 54 starters this season – that is a 46.29% win strike rate and a place rate of 75.9%.

The champion reinsman is credited with driving over 6000 winners for his illustrious career, but the records department’s change to computers in the early 1980s means even that beefy number may be short-changing Lang.

As a trainer, Lang has produced 705 winners all up.

Hectorjayjay is Lang’s newest stable star and the fast-class gun resumes from a long spell at Kilmore on Saturday night in the Popular Alm Sprint.

Cody Winnell and John Thwaites previewed the race named after one of the sport’s all-time legends this morning on One Out One Back.

It was a day to remember for Aaron Dunn. Not only did he go back-to-back from last year to this year in the Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup, he also trained the quinella, with Forty Love taking the honours and last year’s winner Dee Roe finishing second, driven by Jackie Barker.

While the ink is far from dry on the $500,000 Summer Of Glory bonus cheque, superstar mare Keayang Zahara is on track to provide her connections with a windfall after her effortless win in the Group 1 $100,000 Aldebaran Park Maori Mile.
