GOODFORM – Craig’s Strategy for the eight races at Terang

Craig Rail has your selections, strategy and Quaddie for Terang on Monday afternoon

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: VIXAN (2) settled three back on the markers, angled out wide on the home turn and finished off well for a close second behind No Shenaniganz at Charlton last outing. She strikes a suitable assignment and is capable of going one better now. REDBLUENPURPLE (6) settled midfield and worked home reasonably well for fourth in the same race at Charlton. He is widely drawn but is worth a ticket each way. GLORY CONNECT (1) is a first starter for trainer John Meade, which won a trial at Terang last week. He is ideally drawn and is worth an investment. HES RUNAWAY BAY (4) finished fourth in the same trial and makes his debut for trainer Matthew Craven. He must be kept safe and ISLAND RUBEE (3) is capable of showing up without surprising.

BACK: VIXAN (2) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: VIXAN (2), REDBLUENPURPLE (6), GLORY CONNECT (1), HES RUNAWAY BAY (4)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: I AM THE STORM (4) has been lightly raced but he is very smart when at his peak. He only had four starts last season, which yielded two victories, a second in a heat of the New South Wales Derby and a ninth in the Group 1 Final. He will be fitter after three recent trial performances, the latest being a second behind Cardigan Dan, and he should prove hard to beat. KEAYANG SWEETHEART (6) led throughout and recorded a blistering mile rate of 1.51.9 when she scored at Bendigo then circled around the field to park without cover from the 700m when a brave third behind the in-form pacer The Art Of Success at her latest attempt. She is building up a strong record and must be respected. KEAYANG PAYTON (5) pushed forward to find the lead and scored comfortably at Mount Gambier then competed at Metropolitan level last time out. She is a strong mare and is not without a chance. The Aaron Dunn trained pair EYENEEDTHAT (1) and SCOOTER LOU (3) are both strong types that are capable of showing up in a quality race.

SELECTIONS: I AM THE STORM (4), KEAYANG SWEETHEART (6), KEAYANG PAYTON (5), SCOOTER LOU (3)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: LETITRIDELUV (8) gained a sweet trip but was impressive at his debut performance, where he dashed away in a mile rate of 1.57.8. This race is no harder and he should prove hard to beat again. NONNAS DREAM (1) has had no luck whatsoever at her three starts to date but she has shown some potential so she rates as a value hope. SHEZA MAJOR CRUNCH (5) was very slow to begin, settled midfield on the markers and finished off okay for third when on debut. She should have improved with the experience and is worth a place ticket. REMARLI (6) makes his debut for the Margaret and Paddy Lee training combination after his latest victory against easier grade at Mount Gambier. He is a fast beginner and should be prominent throughout.

BACK: LETITRIDELUV (8) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: LETITRIDELUV (8), NONNAS DREAM (1), SHEZA MAJOR CRUNCH (5), REMARLI (6)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: HIGH TEMPO (1) won two trials prior to a debut third at Maryborough, where he led and was pressured hard in the back straight on the final occasion (27.1 third quarter!). He is drawn to lead again and this race is easier so he is clearly the horse to beat. BOBBYS ROOM (8) was doing his best work at the end when third on debut. He has the perfect trailing draw behind HIGH TEMPO (1) and he should have benefited from his first up performance so he is a strong Quinella hope. There is a good chance CARAPAZ (9) will switch back to the markers and follow through behind HIGH TEMPO (1) and BOBBYS ROOM (8) at the start. He was driven aggressively mid-race to find the lead at the 1200m when a handy second at Ouyen last outing and is a place chance again. THAT’S KEVIN (6) finished off quickly at his latest eye-catching third and is worth thought in multiple combinations.

BACK: HIGH TEMPO (1) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: HIGH TEMPO (1), BOBBYS ROOM (8), CARAPAZ (9), THAT’S KEVIN (6)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: KAMARAN (8) is trotting in career best form and is strong enough to overcome the handicap of 20m. He endured a wide trip when third at Terang then backed up at Ballarat on Thursday night with an even wider trip after he raced out three horses wide for the entire event. SISTER MOLLY (7) defeated the easier Maiden class at her debut then followed with a fifth at Terang, where she was looming as a strong winning chance again but broke stride with 300m remaining. She has ability and is worth following. LAIN (6) is a former Queensland trotter, which joins trainer Matthew Craven. He has been beaten by a long margin in two recent trial performances but she was a winner at Albion Park on March 27 so he must be kept safe.  MATTYO (3) broke stride at the start and picked up a lot of ground when fourth at Mount Gambier last week. He should be fitter from that run and is a minor place chance.

SELECTIONS: KAMARAN (8), SISTER MOLLY (7), LAIN (6), MATTYO (3)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: SOME MAGIC (5) is resuming since a debut victory at Melton in August but he did dash home in a sizzling final quarter of 27.0 seconds to win a Melton trial last week. He is likely to give a bold showing from his reasonable draw. ITHISTHEREALLIFE (6) is also undefeated from one attempt and is likely to attract plenty of support. She led throughout from a good draw at Ararat when on debut and this is a race of more depth but she is worth thought again. ONE GOLDEN DEAL (10) made it through to the Super Series Final last season and returned from a spell in style when she won at Melton in a mile rate of 1.54.7. She followed with a third at Charlton and looms as one of the leading chances again. HELLAVA DEAL (11) is a tough competitor, which won nicely at his latest attempt and is not without a chance.

SELECTIONS: SOME MAGIC (5), ISTHISTHEREALLIFE (6), ONE GOLDEN DEAL (10), HELLAVA DEAL (11)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: CEE WHOS BETTOR (13) tends to perform best at Mount Gambier but he was very impressive in winning his heat of this series last week and should go well again. MEDIA MOGUL (9) is awkwardly drawn but he is racing in strong form and should be competitive. He worked to the front and recorded a career best mile rate of 1.56.6 at his latest victory. He looms as one of the leading chances again. ITTAKESLUV (6) worked hard early before gaining a trail and chased hard for second behind CEE WHOS BETTOR (13) in her heat. She is racing consistently against this class and is worth a ticket each way. QUICK DECISION (4) was left stranded without cover and fought on well for third at Maryborough last outing. She lacks early dash but is working up to a win against this class.

SELECTIONS: CEE WHOS BETTOR (13), MEDIA MOGUL (9), ITTAKESLUV (6), QUICK DECISION (4)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: LE CARDINAL (12) was resuming since November when he recorded a big victory at Terang, where he came from a mile off the lead and produced a terrific finale. He should be fitter from that performance and is clearly the horse to beat again. BETTORPATCHMEUP (3) is a versatile pacer and battled on well after setting the speed when third in his heat performance. He overcame a tough trip to win at Hamilton three starts ago and should run his usual honest race. KEAYANG HUNGRY (8) produced his best performance for some time when he circled around the field to find the lead at the 1200m and completely dominated his rivals at Mount Gambier on Tuesday night. He is awkwardly drawn behind the moderate beginner SMOKIN STREPO (1) but he cannot be left out of calculations. FOREGONE CONCLUSION (4) and ARE WEASLEY (5) are usually competitive against this class and PRESIDENTIALCHANGE (13) had excuses after a poor getaway in the Mount Gambier heat on Tuesday night.

BACK: LE CARDINAL (12) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: LE CARDINAL (12), BETTORPATCHMEUP (3), KEAYANG HUNGRY (8), ARE WEASLEY (5)
