In many ways. The opening event will be a reconnaissance mission. If the sit-sprint second-rowers can overcome their draws they may win from anywhere. If not, maps quickly become crucial as the meeting evolves. For punting purposes we’ll have a little, relatively safe Trick to open our assault.

I have NIGHT SPIRIT  (1) leading from gate one here, but the ‘vibe’ currently suggests YIANNI (3) will be getting the front. Make sure you watch the many IV’s on Trots Vision for further info as COOL ROCKING DADDY (8) looks a straight-out or Each Way wager if the pole leads but more like a 1 by 2 or 1 by 3 shot if he’s three poles in transit.

$10 Win & $20 Place COOL ROCKING DADDY (8) at $5.50 or better

If the big guns fire, then MAJESTICAL BELLE (1) may be in some danger of missing a hole, but she can still fill  the podium if they do. If one of the primary pair fails, then life becomes a lot easier and either way $6 the place seems very juicy indeed.

$20 Place MAJESTICAL BELLE (1) at $4 Place or better

One of the big two look certain to win tonight’s first Group 1 but if either do something wrong then exotic dividends could skyrocket and with Jackpots available on F4’s across tonight’s opening 4 races this looks a great race to potentially take advantage.

Flexi First 4: 2,4/ 1,2,4,7,8/ 1,2,4,7,8/ Field: $30 gets 25%

We badly missed top fluc about BULLETPROOF BOY (3) here – he was $21 – but I marked him my on-top tip at $5.50 so the $12 still available remains proper value. The same can be said from a place perspective about I CAST NO SHADOW (1). He may give something away in form and class but if he’s trailing in transit as expected he’s an enormous chance of filling a place and is currently paying $4 to do so.

$15 Each Way BULLETPROOF BOY (3) at $7 or better 

$20 Place I CAST NO SHADOW (1) at $$3 Place or better

Unsure what price we’ll get but if stable confidence is even near what’s required, I can’t see SOHO BOLLINGER (1) being beaten here. Yes, OZZIE BATTLER (6) may cross him early but I’d expect the re-take to be there regardless and it should be smooth sailing after that.

$40 Win SOHO BOLLINGER at $1.80 or better

I took the early price about ALWAYS READY (7)  here - $11 – as I reckon there’s a good chance he leads, and he’s dynamite in front. Now that the original price is gone, I’m genuinely just looking forward to an epic contest without wanting to really go again on the punt.

Nothing significant (Confidence that ALWAYS READY (7) will win if he leads)

Racing is an opinion game but to my eye CARLOAD (1) would probably have beaten stablemate Bernie Winkle the other day if a few things had gone right and from a perfect alley for his racing style I think he’s an enormous chance of placing at very good odds.

$20 Place CARLOAD (1) at $3.50 or better

Something around $1.80 or 90 was bet about ALDEBARAN ZEUS (5) early in the week and that was very enticing but with the screws now applied we’re better off playing skinny, safe exotics and hoping to squeeze a little more from this event than we can backing the very likely winner straight out.

Flexi Trifecta: 5/ 1,2/ 1,2,7: $30 gets 750%

Under normal circumstances I’d be avoiding this second-tier metro maiden like the plague but when overs are offered about your top three tips the market can turn you from cold to warm pretty quickly. Don’t go wild here unless it’s been a monster night already, but I do sense the Bundle Bet below is worth a spec investment at least.

$20 BUNDLE BET on 1,6,7 @ $2.40 or better

There are many ways you can play this final event depending on which way the market turns but as things stand it’s hard to completely ignore MAJESTIC COURTNEY (5) at $6. He’s had a stable switch but shouldn’t lose anything with Ants & Son and on his day, he’d cross this lot for speed. If he does lead, then they’ll be hard pressed passing him over 1690m.
