GOODFORM – Ryan Phelan’s tips and analysis for Stawell Cup day

Ryan Phelan is keen on the twilight card on Stawell Cup day.

R1 – 3:52pm – Thomas Foods Maiden Trot – 2180m

8 – My Mother Said

6 – Kyvalley Joyride

1 – Tara Tuff

3 – Tricky Diamond

R2 – 4:34pm – Gift Hall Of Fame Museum Trot – 2180m

5 – Maximez

3 – Daisy Bouchea

7 – Aussie Muscle

6 – Rastamon

R3 – 5:09pm – NGSC The Maori Legend – 2180m

6 – Carla Pixie

1 – Old Dominion

4 – Nipotina

2 – King Of Kvintet

R4 – 5:47pm – Petstock Stawell Maiden Pace – 2180m

5 – Happenstbabeachboy

10 – Sportsbou

2 – Startin To Gogh

3 – Malani Joh

Happenstbabeachboy is a first starter off one trial at Maryborough where he dropped out to last to win comfortably. He didn’t beat much there or run scintillating time, but I really liked the way he got through his work professionally and looked to have decent ability.

BACK: 5 Happenstbabeachboy – 1 Unit (win)  2 Units (place)

R5 – 6:17pm – Wimmera Mallee Vets Stawell Trotters Cup – 2600m

5 – Robbinmemates

10 – Kyvalley Heist

3 – Suga Daddy

11 – El Resamo

Robbinmemates is no stranger to these parts, formerly under the care of Andy Gath, had a successful stint in NSW and now with Jason Ainsworth. He’s had one run for the new stable where he was solid to the line off a break and a 20m handicap. He goes to the front row and his manners are very good. He’s worth a small play.

BACK: 5 Robbinmemates – 1 Unit (win)

R6 – 6:52pm – Shelton And Lane Pace – 1785m

1 – Tinsel Tiara

8 – Thelongroadnowhere

2 – Starzinhereyes

4 – Foregoneconclusion

Tinsel Tiara is a newcomer to Victoria from Queensland off the back of two very impressive trials at Melton. Carson Millar very quickly has established himself as a very good trainer, rejuvenating the form of horses like this one. Millar also has a great strike rate with horses fresh-up and has an aggressive young driver in Jordan Leedham to lead all the way.

BACK: 1 Tinsel Tiara – 3 Units (win)

R7 – 7:23pm – Ecycle Solutions Stawell Pacing Cup Final – 2600m

2 – Rudy Gee

1 – Silver Mystique

8 – Kendys Butterfly

11 – All Da Rage

Rudy Gee couldn’t have been more impressive first-up leading all the way in fast time. He looks to have come back much stronger for trainer Mick Stanley this prep, and the fact this race presents in a very similar way, with added fitness he should only improve.

BACK: 2 Rudy Gee – 3 Units (win)

R8 – 7:51pm – Chris N Di’s Bakery Pace – 2180m

9 – Elated

2 – The Sportz Star

8 – Rube Starbuck

5 – The Naked Art

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore with a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10.

Mission accomplished.

The decision to swing more major races on to Victoria Cup night and make it an extravaganza has worked, even three weeks before it plays out.

Trainer Joe Pace and his son Adrian toasted two milestone achievements after their pacer Justalittlesip scored an upset win in the Lifestyle Communities Free For All at Melton on Saturday night.
