GOODFORM – Ryan’s tips and Quaddie for Shepparton

Ryan Phelan has done the form for tonight’s bumper 10-race card from Shepparton.

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: THUNDERFIRE (9) looks as though he’s trending in the direction of a very smart horse. He’s building a good record, and his first-up victory was a dashing display where he won effortlessly. He gets a nice trailing draw off a good speed for him to unleash his strong sprint late.
SKYFALL BENCHMARK (5) is a quick beginner, and whilst there’s no guarantee he’ll find the front, with a sit his form is good enough. STARZZZ DESTINY (11) hasn’t had much luck with barrier draws lately, but he continues to run well and can trail into it late. MUSSEL SHOALS (3) is a fast beginner and last-start winner leading all the way; he’s just slightly up in grade.

BACK: THUNDERFIRE (9) – 4 units (win)

SELECTIONS: THUNDERFIRE (9), SKYFALL BENCHMARK (5), STARZZZ DESTINY (11), MUSSEL SHOALS (3)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: PRICILLA (7) has been good in her two career starts, winning first up and did a power of work last time only to be bloused late in a field which seems stronger than what she meets here. She will have to work again but is equal to the task.
OUR SWEET JEANNIE (9) was driven confidently in a strong lineup last time where they ran time and she knocked up late. Her debut win suggests she has ability and is worth another chance. IM BIG BUSINESS (6) was good last time finding the line well and may get a decent map here. MAJOR EASTWOOD (2) was solid at his second career start and whilst this is stronger gets a soft draw.

SELECTIONS: PRICILLA (7), OUR SWEET JEANNIE (9), IM BIG BUISNESS (6), MAJOR EASTWOOD (2)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: LOWER WEST SIDE (6) returns to the front row after resuming for a 5th last time at this track where he found the line quite well. He showed glimpses of talent last time in and could press forward from this draw to gain an advantage over the short trip.
SON OF A BROAD (10) is a tough customer who may be better served over the longer trip, but his form is quite solid and can be strong late. ALPHA CHARLOTTE (4) stays under notice with just the one sound trial and has a suitable draw. BET ON ACES (13) was good when resuming from a long break in a better-quality field but has a tough draw to overcome.

SELECTIONS: LOWER WEST SIDE (6), SON OF BROAD (10), ALPHA CHARLOTTE (4), BET ON ACES (13)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: MISS HOLLY RED (2) is having her third run for the new stable since coming from NSW and has improved with each effort. Her run last time she ran home well from an awkward draw; she is a quick beginner and can lead or take a sit on the right option.
LITTLE MISS VALLEY (11) resumes here as a 10-start maiden, but she’s promised to go close on a few occasions last time in. She’s had a good trial into this and is more of a known quantity in a race which has many question marks. FARSTAR (9) has burned a few punters’ fingers, including last time when relegated for trotting roughly, but the ability is there once he puts it all together. SEBS GAL (8) has a strong SP profile in her three career starts but has broken on each occasion. She’s been put away and trialled well so could be open to improvement.

SELECTIONS: MISS HOLLY RED (2), LITTLE MISS VALLEY (11), FARSTAR (9), SEBS GAL (8)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: JILLIBY TOPGUN (4) has shown good development during this campaign, improving his manners which resulted in him leading all the way here last start. If he brings those manners and temperament he can go back-to-back.
JACKIES GIFT (10) has had three runs since coming from NSW and was a good winner two runs back. She over-raced and broke at Bendigo when well fancied; she’s worth another chance. VAN DOREN (3) returns to the front row and is better suited over the middle trip and can improve on recent form. I AM HARRO (9) led and faded running quick time last week and is worth another shot on his prior form.

SELECTIONS: JILLIBY TOPGUN (4), JACKIES GIFT (10), VAN DOREN (3), I AM HARRO (9)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: HIGHVIEW HAMMER (4) returns to the front row and gets a chance to show his gate speed to look for the top here. His win back in January came under similar conditions when he was able to lead all the way at this track in what presented as a stronger lineup.
IAMAWINGATE (6) was a winner here back in January from a similar draw and hasn’t been too far away since; he will just need luck in running. MASTER MIKI (1) maps to get the right run from the pole, and although his form doesn’t read overly flash, this presents as his most suitable assignment in some time. ALTA BAYAMO (9) has been getting it wrong at the start his past couple, but as a result drops significantly in grade and could be open to improvement if he paces away.

BACK: HIGHVIEW HAMMER (4) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: HIGHVIEW HAMMER (4), IAMAWINGATE (6), MASTER MIKI (1), ALTA BAYAMO (9)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: ROAM (4) has been going well since joining the new stable, including a tough effort last time when she sat parked in good time finishing a close 2nd. She draws well against her own sex with the claim and can press forward and prove hard to get past.
MADAM REACTOR (1) was better last start from a similar draw in good time; she can show speed and get nice cover. OVER THE LINE (6) was a winner last time from a better draw, but she’s honest enough to consider. MAHINDI (3) can show gate speed and look to get cover; she’s been racing better her past few.

BACK: ROAM (4) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: ROAM (4), MADAM REACTOR (1), OVER THE LINE (6), MAHINDI (3)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: MYNAMEISRUBY (3) gets the right conditions here to press forward from the draw and look for the lead, and dropping back to the mile is in her favour. She does need to believe in the winning post again as she’s been a little costly but can redeem herself here.
WHERES WOOD WOOD (5) has been better her past couple and stuck on well after sitting parked last time. OLLY ODD POTTS (9) can mix her form a little, but if she brings her form which saw her a winner last time is right in it. LITTLE WHIPPET (2) will find this slightly easier than his past couple and has a soft draw.

BACK: MYNAMEISRUBY (3) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: MYNAMEISRUBY (3), WHERES WOOD WOOD (5), OLLY ODD POTTS (9), LITTLE WHIPPET (2)

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: WINGATE GUY (2) was flying at the start of the year winning 3 from 4 back in January. You can make excuses for his numerical form at times, and from a bad draw last time ran well missing the placings in a blanket finish. The draw and tempo look to be in his favour.
LEONARD (9) can watch a speedy front row unfold here and trail through on what looks to be a tricky mile race where conserving energy may be a help. He drops in class and has been running well in fast-run races. HEZ HARRYWHO (6) was well backed at Bendigo last week when able to lead from a better draw and ran well, just not sure how it works out for him here. OUR CHEEKY DEVIL (4) likes a fast-run mile and hasn’t been far away in similar company here of late.

SELECTIONS: WINGATE GUY (2), LEONARD (9), HEZ HARRYWHO (6), OUR CHEEKY DEVIL (4)

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: REASON TO LAUGH (5) has improved each run for the new stable and went close to winning last start at Cranbourne when working in the run. He’ll need a little bit of luck with the map, but a repeat of last time will see him go close.
PARISIAN BANDIT (7) comes here as a last-start winner where he got all the favours, has a tricky draw to overcome now but is going better than most of these. ARRAPS (6) strikes a suitable race here and as a 10-time winner gets a chance to improve despite a sticky draw. ATOMIC GLORY (3) is a very quick beginner which aids his chances over the short trip; he just hasn’t looked like winning for a while though.

SELECTIONS: REASON TO LAUGH (5), PARISIAN BANDIT (7), ARRAPS (6), ATOMIC GLORY (3)
