GOODFORM – Ryan’s tips and strategy for Cranbourne Sunday night

Ryan Phelan takes a look at the form for the eight races from Cranbourne Sunday night.

R1 – 6:14pm – Dual Code Good Friday – April 18 Pace – 2080m

2 – Sinbad Sassy

3 – Villarock

4 – Netra

9 – Keayang Payton

R2 – 6:50pm – Decron Ararat Pacing Cup (3rd Heat) – 2080m

2 – Sports Wrack

3 – Our Bella Lucia

5 – Chasing Rex

9 – Edward Grange

Sports Wrack gets a chance to return to the winners list here with the right set up. He’s a quick beginner who maps to get to the top and may get a decent time of it, or at least good cover. His recent form has been consistent and running time, so he’ll give a great sight at value.

BACK: 2 Sports Wrack – 1 Unit (win)

R3 – 7:20pm – NZB Standardbred 3yo & Older Maiden Pace – 2080m

4 – Davolas Legacy

1 – Soho Pina Colada

8 – Jilliby Ryder

2 – The Ultimat Cowboy

R4 – 7:55pm – Lather Up Standing @ Woodlands Stud Pace – 1609m

9 – New Shuffle

8 – Goodtime Mach

3 – Major Bert

4 – General Lincoln

New Shuffle is a 3yo who showed plenty of promise in his 2yo season and delivered emphatically first up from a spell. He raced tough on that occasion which adds to the confidence to overcome a tough draw and map, over the short trip. He looks a horse who will be winning better races than this.

BACK: 9 New Shuffle – 4 Units (win)

R5 – 8:27pm – Aldebaran Park Trot – 2080m

7 – Heza Gun

2 – Steady Dream

8 – Shaq The Anvil

3 – Right Of Reply

Heza Gun has delivered consistent enough form to stick with here. His three runs back from a break have shown he’s progressing in the right direction. Two back, from a similar draw he beat a handy bunch, and I think the extra distance here works in his favour.

BACK: 7 Heza Gun – 2 Units (win)

R6 – 9:05pm – Hygain 3yo & Older Maiden Trot – 1609m

4 – Parlezvous Patty

1 – One More Move

6 – Island Rubee

7 – Perpetual

R7 – 9:30pm – Mark Gurry & Associates Trot – 1609m

1 – Illawong Phoenix

5 – Royal Cadence

8 – Oh No Never Again

7 – Goodtime Oscar

I was with Illawong Phoenix last start at Shepparton, and I see no reason to jump off on that effort when she was wide over the short trip in a sprint home. She goes from the backrow to the ace and whilst I’m not certain she can lead; I would be surprised if she was worse than behind leader.

BACK: 1 Illawong Phoenix – 1 Unit (win)

R8 – 10:00pm – Cranbourne Fencing Pace – 1609m

6 – Blackmirra

2 – Alpha Crucis

1 – Lotakevi

3 – Kardesler

Blackmirra has been racing in good form this preparation and drops back sharply to a more suitable grade. She is a mare with good speed – however I’m not sure she will lead – but that’s not the end of her chances. She can run better time than most of these so I’m hoping she can be too strong.

BACK: 6 Blackmirra – 2 Units (win)

QUADDIE (Races 5-8)

2,7,8

1,2,4,5,6,7

1,5,7,8

2,3

$72 = 50%
