Ryan Phelan’s tips, 10-unit strategy and quaddie for Sunday night at Cranbourne.
R1 – 5:54pm – Decron Maiden Pace – 2080m
9 – Maxy Bomber
5 – Denver Man
3 – My Kgari
4 – Imgunnarestngo
Maxy Bomber has done enough in two career runs to be most competitive here. First-up he was unlucky not to win when held up at a vital stage, and last start drew wide and had to do too much off the track in a sprint home. This race sets up perfectly and James Herbertson back on is a plus.
BACK: 9 Maxy Bomber – 2 Units (win)
R2 – 6:24pm – Dual Code Kids Night Out Sat 28 Dec Pace – 1609m
10 – Shazza Love
7 – Ninedolla Toastie
5 – Alana Miki
7 – Ruebe Starbuck
I’ve been with Shazza Love her past few starts, and no question she was poor last time at Shepparton with no abnormalities reported by the stewards. Her form prior to that was very good and I respect the stable enough, the fact she’s here, to put last time down to an off night. She can bounce back.
BACK: 10 Shazza Love – 1 Unit (win)
R3 – 6:58pm – Hygain Maiden Trot – 1609m
1 – El Bravo
6 – Southwind Chloe
4 – Winnies Dream
5 – Wallis
R4 – 7:28pm – Lather Up @ Woodlands Stud Pace – 2080m
7 – Deuce Coupe
4 – Lavada Gold
8 – Metro Memory
9 – Groom
Deuce Coupe has been solid in four runs for trainer Jodi Quinlan including the most recent where he did all but win from a bad draw and was off the track late. Doesn’t get too many favours with this draw, but he may balance up and press forward with this field not overly strong. Short odds, but a strong play.
BACK: 7 Deuce Coupe – 4 Units (win)
R5 – 7:55pm – Mark Gurry & Associates Pace – 2080m
8 – Blazin Heaven
6 – Hameldame
7 – Highview Hammer
3 – Feel The Buzz
The scenario with Blazin Heaven is an interesting one. Had she drawn the front row here I’d price her $1.80, but the backrow draw adds a significant degree of difficulty. She was brave last start in a better race at Melton and this is a significant class drop, so I must be with her despite needing luck.
BACK: 8 Blazin Heaven – 2 Units (win)
R6 – 8:27pm – Blue Hills Rise Pace – 1609m
3 – Denny
1 – Bona Khan
8 – Dressed In Gold
6 – Master Remi
R7 – 9:02pm – Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety Mornington Pace – 2080m
3 – Just Pedro
5 – Wind Sock
1 – Aishabeach
6 – Quaddie VC
It was a horror watch for Just Pedro when resuming from a break when he just didn’t seem to have his game face on. He stargazed, hit flat spots, struck his own sulky and galloped in the straight. So why am I tipping him you say? His form last prep was good against stronger opposition, his trials before and prior to last start were very good and he has Chris Alford. Bounce back factor.
BACK: 3 Just Pedro – 1 Unit (win)
R8 – 9:30pm – Janine Stewart Memorial Trot – 2080m
5 – Scar
4 – Tetra
6 – Blanco Canyon
1 – Whose Me Mum
R9 – 10:00pm – NZB Standardbred Trot – 1609m
5 – Emwallen
3 – No Telling Heather
1 – Imperial Whiz
2 – Our Safari Sun
QUADDIE (Races 5-8)
6,8
1,3,4,6,8
1,3,5,6,8
4,5,6
$72 = 50%

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10
