The Cranbourne Harness Racing Club will pay tribute to the late Gordon Lockman (pictured) at its race meeting on Tuesday March 10.
Lockman was long-time secretary at Cranbourne and renowned for his innovative approach to promotion of the industry.
Victorian Harness Racing Media Association (VHRMA) president Len Baker said that events such as the Humbletonian, for maiden horses, and his Cranbourne Cup promotions garnered the industry widespread media publicity.
Lockman was also a long-time president of the VHRMA, developing strong relationships with Harness Racing Victoria’s media team and racing media representatives during his time in the role.
“I always appreciated Gordon’s approach to promotion of the sport and his willingness to proactively work alongside HRV during his time leading the media association,” HRV Media and Communications Manager Cody Winnell said.
“Gordon’s enthusiasm for the industry, and especially the media promotion of the industry, was infectious and I found him very supportive during my early time at HRV. I’m glad the Cranbourne Club and the media association continue to honour him in this way.”
For $33 per person the Tuesday March 10 race-night package includes admission and racebook, a two-course meal, a cash bar and TV monitors on tables in the club dining room.
