High fives for Nathan as top reinsman has a day out at Maryborough

Nathan Jack put on a driving clinic during a huge afternoon of Vicbred Super Series trotting heats at Maryborough on Monday.

The star reinsman had claimed five winners at a single meeting once in his career – at Echuca back in 2014 – and did it again during the big 11-race card in the Central Goldfields.

Jack won two-year-old trotting fillies’ qualifiers with Preferred Love (trained by Anton Golino) and Violet Stanford (Jack), then prevailed with three-year-old boys The Locomotive (Wayne Potter) and Gotfeelingsyouknow (Golino) before clinching the five-timer with three-year-old filly Shesawish (Neville Pangrazio).

“I had a mate go with me to Maryborough and he kept saying that I’d get five winners,” Jack said.

“They were all quite impressive and are all pretty nice horses going forward.”

While Jack dominated in the sulky, there were plenty of other top performances during the afternoon’s VSS qualifiers. David Miles’ gun trotter Rockinwithattitude cruised to victory in her three-year-old fillies’ heat, Alex Ashwood scored with his three-year-old colt Stevie Gee and recent Nutrien Equine Classic champions Valtino (Blake Fitzpatrick) and No Telling Heather (Colin Holloway) won respective heats for the two-year-old colts/geldings and fillies.

Other winners on the card were two-year-old gelding Aldebaran Campbell (Brent Lilley) and three-year-old filly Rapid Return (David Abrahams).

The top four placegetters in each of the races – except for the two-year-old trotting colts and geldings’ division where it’s the first six across the line – now progress to rich Vicbred Super Series Group 1 finals at Melton on September 16.

VSS heats for the four-year-old trotters are scheduled at Bendigo this Thursday, with pacing semi-finals locked in for Melton on Saturday night.
