Industry news: HRV issues COVID-19 update

Following the Premier’s announcement today of circuit-breaker action from 11.59pm tonight to get ahead of the latest COVID-19 strain, Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) advises that race meetings from tomorrow will proceed only with essential personnel permitted to attend.

This means owners, general admission patrons and non-essential people will not be permitted to enter Victorian harness racing venues until further advised.

HRV also asks that those living in metropolitan areas refrain from travelling to Ararat tonight for the cup meeting in the interest of the local Ararat community.

HRV will reintroduce temperature testing at all licenced venues from tomorrow.

Masks must be worn (inside and outside) while attending any HRV venue from tonight.

If you are not feeling well, are displaying any symptoms, have been in close contact with symptomatic people, or have attended a confirmed exposure site, HRV urges you not to attend harness racing venues and immediately get tested for COVID-19.

“We have been in this position previously and I have been extremely proud of the way the industry has responded to the challenges presented by this pandemic,” HRV CEO Dayle Brown said.

“The resilience shown by the industry has been amazing. And it is thanks to those efforts that we have been able to continue racing.

“Our priority is to ensure we’re doing everything we can to protect the health and wellbeing of communities throughout Victoria as well as our participants and staff.

“For that reason, we urge everyone to comply with the rules. Stewards and officials will increase their presence to ensure compliance. We’re all in this together and we will get through it together.”

HRV will provide further updates as required.
