Jackie Barker joined father Rod and grandfather Jim on The Weekly Advertiser Horsham Pacing Cup honour roll on Monday afternoon when she partnered Dianne Giles-trained seven-year-old Sew What to victory.

Near last with 700m to go, Barker secured a three-wide trail at the 600 then edged four-wide around the home turn in readiness for a final charge to the post.

The only mare in the 12-horse field responded to Barker's urgings with a barnstorming finish to score from the Julie Douglas-trained stablemates John McLean (Ellen Tormey) and Earl Of Pembroke (Jack Laugher).

“I'm a bit lost for words actually, that one was pretty special,” an elated Barker said after the race. “She's a super mare, I love driving her and she deserves this today.”

The 27-year-old Hamilton reinswoman’s grandfather Jim drove and trained the 1983 Cup winner Mandinka Man and his son Rod piloted the family favourite Athol Bret in 1987, both on the old track at the Horsham Showgrounds.

“It's awesome to get my name on there as well, along with Dad and Grandpa. And yes, I'm really thrilled,” Jackie said.

Giles paid tribute to “Jackie, my driver” when accepting the trophy from editor of The Weekly Advertiser, Lauren Henry.

“She just gets along super with the horse and we are really grateful for her connection,” she said.

Giles recalled that the veteran of 114 starts had posted her first career victory at Horsham as a two-year-old in 2019.

“And to come back and be able to win the Cup here, years later, is something quite special,” she said.

With a record of 17 wins, 36 minors and a bank of $264,330, Sew What has proved ultra-competitive throughout her career and in recent months has really blossomed into a hardened, country cups campaigner.

Kelvin Barker-trained Mercenary claimed a second-straight feature success with victory in the Woodlands Stud Horsham Trotters Cup.

The five-year-old gelding backed-up his Ararat triumph from a week earlier with a dominant performance in the $20,000 event for driver James Herbertson.

Mercenary has now won more than $100,000 in prizemoney with 10 wins from 50 career starts.
