LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 1720m Australian Pacing Gold Pace

1/12 Dance Affair – James Herbertson/Philip Chircop

Dance Affair has been racing stronger fields and looks well-placed here. The draw is tricky over the short trip, but with genuine early tempo expected, he can charge home late.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Win Price: $1.50

Race 2 – 1720m Aldebaran Park Trot

2/10 Nephew Of Sonoko – James Herbertson/Ross Graham

Nephew Of Sonoko has rediscovered consistency this prep, which is encouraging given his peak form measures up in this class. The trailing draw and Herbertson aboard are both positives.

Confidence: Low          Rated Place Price: $1.80

Race 3 – 2240m Lifestyle Communities Woodlea Trot

3/5 Hes From Heaven – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs

Hes From Heaven has been luckless this season from poor draws over short trips. The step up in distance suits and he maps to press forward to the lead. If he controls from the top, he’ll be very hard to beat.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.70

Race 4 – 1720m Haras Des Trotteurs Trot

4/6 Imperial Command – Kate Gath/Andy Gath

Imperial Command draws to lead over the short trip which is his ideal set up. He can be tricky in the score-up, but if he does everything right, he has the class to control this and take beating.

Confidence: Medium          Rated Win Price: $2.60

Race 5 – 1720m Lionheart Security Trot

5/2 Worth Waiting – Rebecca Bartley/Rebecca Bartley

Worth Waiting is chasing a winning hat-trick and gets the draw to push forward early. If she controls the tempo, she’ll give plenty of cheek again.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Place Price: $1.40

Race 6 – 1720m Swift Signs Pace

6/5 In An Ideal World – Ewa Justice/John Justice

In An Ideal World was huge last start at Charlton, narrowly beaten in sizzling time. He doesn’t win out of turn, but this is much easier than recent assignments and it’s his race to lose.

Confidence: High      Rated Win Price: $1.20

Race 7 – 2240m Benstaud Standardbreds Mares Pace

7/4 Centofellie – James Herbertson/Mick Blackmore

Centofellie offers great value — she was tough first-up when runner-up to favourite Soap And Bubbles. She has early speed and with James Herbertson aboard, she may push for the front, with her main danger perhaps preferring a sit over the trip.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Place Price: $1.70

Race 8 – 1720m Hygain Victory Pace

8/12 Cigano – Ryan Sanderson/Emma Stewart

Cigano is a high quality 3yo in hot form but faces a tough test from a wide alley over the short trip. Still has the talent to win, but the map makes it risky.

Confidence: Low    Rated Win Price: $1.80

Race 9 – 2240m Hip Pocket Castlemaine Pace

9/4 Fox Dan – Ryan Sanderson/Emma Stewart

Fox Dan is emerging as one of Stewart’s standout 3yos and pushing for a Eureka berth. He should roll forward to the lead and showcase his class.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.10

Race 10 – 2240m Hertz Melton 3yo Pace

10/6 Storms Collide – Ryan Sanderson/Emma Stewart

Storms Collide has returned in devastating fashion, winning both starts this prep with a blend of speed and strength. He looks capable of finding the front and dictating, then dashing clear late.

Confidence: High    Rated Win Price: $1.40
