LISTEN: Emma says TAB Eureka win is ‘best by a mile’

Winning big races is just part and parcel of Emma Stewart’s job as a trainer, but success in Saturday night’s TAB Eureka has quickly emerged as the highlight of a wonderful harness racing career.

The champion horsewoman spoke with Matt Stewart and Nikkita Ross on RSN earlier this week where she reflected on the magical night at Menangle.

Stewart prepared Encipher for victory in the $2.1million race for slot holders Summit Bloodstock and Aaron Bain Racing, with the sole mare of the field charging past star Queenslander Leap To Fame in the closing stages to win the inaugural running of the race.

“It was an incredible night – it’s hard to describe the feeling of it really because the whole night was just magical,” she said.

“I’m still pinching myself to be honest.”

Stewart has won more than 100 Group 1 races, but rated the TAB Eureka victory as the standout success in more than 20 years as a trainer.

“It’s the best by a mile,” she said.

“And not just winning the race, but the whole build-up to it leading into the race.

“We had to fight really hard for her to get a run in the race because we believed in her and no one else sort of really did.

“Everything about that race and to come out and win it, there’s nothing that could top that ever I don’t think.”
