Driver Greg Sugars has confirmed champion squaregaiter Just Believe will not chase a third-straight Inter Dominion Trotting Championship as he remains in New Zealand for the rest of 2024.
Sugars today spoke with Andrew Bensley on RSN, where he reflected on last week’s Dominion Handicap triumph at Addington and discussed the immediate plans for the megastar eight-year-old.
“We’re going to stay in New Zealand for a little bit longer, basically for the remainder of the year,” Sugars said.
“He probably won’t have another start now in Christchurch, but he’ll head north to Auckland where there’s a couple of feature races there, which is highlighted by the National Trot on New Year’s Eve.”
Just Believe has won the past two Inter Dominion Trotting Championship grand finals at Melton and Albion Park, and could have become the first horse in history to win three titles with success at Menangle in December.
Sugars said stablemates Better Eclipse and Hes From Heaven would also remain in New Zealand to chase feature races in the coming weeks.
