Melton track curators seminar to focus on maintenance and preparation

Victorian curators will come together at Melton on June 15 for a track maintenance forum, which will focus on preparation and offer a chance for an exchange of ideas.

Held by Harness Racing Victoria from 10.30am to 4.30pm in Tabcorp Park Melton’s Legends Room, the seminar will focus on the use of track machinery, particularly the grader, and have segments from keynote speakers including drivers and a veterinarian.

HRV general manager of racing Stephen Bell said the seminar was an important sharing of information but also an great meeting opportunity.

“The social aspect has led to many curators making long term contacts with fellow curators, which has proven most beneficial for seeking advice and exchanging ideas,” Bell said.

“Following the seminar, attendees are invited to dine at the evening race meeting and are given a further chance to mix with other curators.”

Starting at 10.30am on June 15, the seminar will include the provision of morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and attendees are invited to stay on for that night’s race meeting at Tabcorp Park.

Bell said while all Victorian registered harness racing clubs were urged to participate, as has been the case with past seminars HRV welcomed any curators or representatives from New Zealand or interstate harness racing clubs to also attend.

Any attendees wishing to stay overnight can do so at the special price of $150 a room by booking directly with Tabcorp Park on (03) 8746 0600.

Curators can witness a practical demonstration of the Tabcorp Park racetrack being graded the following morning after the races.

There is no cost for attending the seminar but flights, accommodation and expenses outside the food/drink provided on the day are the responsibility of each representative or their associated club or body.

Those wishing to attend should advise Rachel Boxshall by Tuesday June 1 by emailing rboxshall@hrv.org.au. For further information call Rob Pongho on (03) 8378 0218.
