Michelle steps onto the Group 1 stage for the first time

With more than 1000 drives and over 130 wins in the sulky, Michelle Phillips needs no introductions.

But for all her experience, the young reinswoman is yet to compete in a race at the elite level.

That will all change tonight when she partners Sebs Choice in the Group 1 Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Colts and Geldings Final at Tabcorp Park Melton.

Phillips has driven the John Nicholson-trained gelding in his past three starts, winning all of them including heats of the series at Bendigo and Kilmore.

The 23-year-old is excited by the opportunity to compete in tonight’s $350,000 feature.

“In a big race like that, I’ve got the confidence in the horse and in myself, but it’s a pretty good field and a lot of quality horses in it,” Phillips told Trots Talk earlier this week.

“I’ll be a bit nervous going into it, but I’ve got confidence in the horse.”

Sebs Choice is a $10 chance with the TAB to win tonight’s Group 1, which is one of four on the 12-race card from Victorian harness racing headquarters.
