No Guarantees, but Mark’s got a great hand in the Boort Pacing Cup

Jadah Rose took all before her on the racetrack in the early 2000s.

She was an out-and-out champion – winning 31 races, including three in the United States.

While it is more than a decade since her decorated racing career finished, her breeder, owner and trainer Mark Thompson continues to celebrate the influence of Jadah Rose.

Nowadays it is largely through the on-track deeds of the offspring of Jadah Rose’s champion son Guaranteed.

Jadah Rose proved to be an outstanding broodmare.

She left five winners, highlighted by Guaranteed and Jadahson, who won 26 races.

Guaranteed was the standout though – winning four Group 1s, including the Chariots of Fire.

Guaranteed has gone on to a stud career, and with limited opportunities has produced 13 individual winners.

It comes as no surprise that the Rochester-based Thompson is among those sharing his success as a sire.

He has the most prolific winner of Guaranteed to date in Pas Guarantee, who has nine victories to his name.

All those wins have come through two and three-year-old campaigns.

While he is not new to racing in open-age company, Thompson is now stepping it up for Pas Guarantee.

He does just that in the Cr Neil Beattie Family/VHRC Boort Pacing Cup (2250m) on Sunday.

Pas Guarantee rounded out his three-year-old season with a rush, winning three races on end at Swan Hill (twice) and Albury.

After a freshen-up, the son of race-winning mare Dieing Secret resumed with a close-up fourth at Echuca on February 23, working home strongly from last after sitting three-wide for most of the last lap.

Thompson was pleased with the run, the gelding’s first start since mid-November.

He said the run was as good as anything in the race.

“He got to the line well,” he said.

“This is a step-up and he’s going to be back (from the second row), but he’s been working well.”

Pas Guarantee is one of two starters Thompson has in the Cup, with the ultra-consistent Missed The Truth giving him a strong hand.

Like his stablemate, Missed The Truth is also a four-year-old going into his first country cup.

Thompson expects Missed The Truth to get involved in an early battle for the lead from gate two.

He said the 712m circuit could be tricky and the lead was the place to be if possible.

Thompson said he would not be surprised if all six off the front row had a look at the top.

Missed The Truth, who has won five of 14 starts, comes through the same race at Echuca as Pas Guarantee.

He faced the breeze and fought on for a close second to the smart Red Hot Assassin.

Missed The Truth is second favourite in an open market behind the Dianne Giles-trained Sew What, who has drawn outside the second row.

The eight-race program also features The Honourable Peter Walsh/VHRC-Aldebaran Park Benefitting Our Members Boort Trotters Cup (2612m).

Inter Dominion finalist Hatchback is considered the one to beat, sharing the back of 30m with last-start winner Travel Bug.
