Opportunity knocks – APG Melbourne to deliver again in 2026

The momentum is building as one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most well regarded and best producing yearling auctions is ready to deliver more life changing moments this February with a star-studded catalogue.

From classy juveniles to Grand Circuit champions, the Australian Pacing Gold Melbourne Yearling Sale is a sale where opportunity knocks and the smart buyers answer with incredible consequences.

A 76 lot catalogue has been assembled for the Oaklands Junction based auction on Sunday, February 15 at 1pm, the day following the Hunter Cup meeting at Melton. The yearling parade will be held on the Saturday from 12 noon.

“The 2026 APG Melbourne sale has seen a strong increase in yearling numbers, with many vendors returning to APG, reflecting renewed confidence in the platform,” Wanda Duggan, from APG Marketing and Sponsorships, said.

“Buyer interest has been exceptional, both locally and interstate, with strong enquiry already coming from NSW and New Zealand.

“This is shaping as one of APG’s strongest Victorian catalogues in recent years.”

The deep, well-balanced catalogue comprising 64 pacers (36 colts and 28 fillies) and 12 trotters provides buyers with genuine odds of securing a horse capable of racing in the APG sales-race series.

“Based on these numbers, the likelihood of purchasing a yearling that can contest a major APG Race Series with stakemoney of $100,000, is significantly higher than any other yearling sale in the country,” Ms Duggan stated.

The APG Race Series comprises $100,000 races for two-year-old pacing colts and fillies and a $50,000 race for three-year-olds. Trotters of both sexes can contest a $40,000 mixed sex race for two-year-old trotters in 2027 and $30,000 mixed sex trotting race in 2028.

The APG Melbourne Race Series is exclusive to horses purchased from the APG Melbourne sale.

“There is no need to travel interstate or race against NSW based horses, the APG sale and race series platforms are designed to support local participation and local breeders and owners invested in Victorian harness racing,” Ms Duggan said.

“We cannot wait to see these yearlings making their racing debuts in 2027.”

One of the highlights of the sale is the opportunity to invest in a yearling as part of Harness Racing Victoria’s Vicbred Voucher program. More than 50 Vicbred Platinum yearlings are eligible to be purchased using one or multiple $5,000 Vicbred vouchers.

Awards for the best presented yearlings and sale toppers will be presented over the weekend, carrying products from key APG sponsors International Animal Health Products, Hygain and Garrard’s Horse & Hound.

“APG is building real momentum, investing heavily into the Victorian harness racing industry through partnership with HRV and sponsorship of the Vicbred Super Series with a renewed focus on continually improving the sale day experience,” Ms Duggan said.

“And this is just the beginning!”
