The Inter Dominion, harness racing’s greatest series, is about to get even bigger … and smaller!
Pony Trots Victoria participants will set the scene for ID22, with their racing to get underway at Tabcorp Park Melton this Saturday night – the first of three rounds of pony trots heats.
PTV manager Jenni Lewis said she couldn’t wait for the flags to drop for the first of the heats.
“There’s nothing like the Inter Dominion, including in the pony trots, this is what they’re all striving for and been working towards all year,” Lewis said.
“The early morning starts for ponies and participants have all come to this and we are looking forward to kicking things off and build up to the December 10 finals.”
Saturday’s first night of heats, which is supported by Matthew Craven Racing, kicks off with heats after races two and three and presentations after race five.
The series then continues at Melton on Friday November 18, which is supported by Ashwood Racing, part of the Breeders Crown Graduate race night festivities.
The heats conclude on Shepparton on November 29, supported by Saddleworld Shepparton.
There are heats for minis, shetlands and ponies, with six Victorian representatives to go through to the Tonkin Stewart Racing-sponsored Pony Trot Inter Dominion Finals on December 10, sharing the spotlight with the pacing and trotting championships.
WHAT I NEED TO KNOW:
- To qualify ponies must race in at least one of the scheduled heats and those with the fastest times in their respective categories will qualify for the finals.
- Participants can choose to race in one, two or all three heats to attempt to get their fastest time. Two finalists will be selected from each category.
- The Victorian representatives who qualify for the finals will be provided with a set of racing colours to wear on ID22 finals night, a branded rug for their pony as well as a limited edition ID22 PTV licence and lanyard.
- There will be activities off the track for the pony trots participants as well, with a celebratory dinner for all ID22 pony trot participants and their families at Ballarat and District Trotting Club starting at 5.30pm on December 9. The event will include great representation from our interstate and New Zealand pony trots friends.
- The free event includes a barbeque dinner, presentations, guest speakers as well as a disco and will be a fantastic night.
